"Fox & Rat" Virtual Series - Season Eight

Review By: Gothic Spook

"He’s just thinking about how he should have me committed and locked up in a straight jacket." - Monica

Lots of changes occur in this wonderful episode! Some are promoted ... some change partners ... some ... nope, you have to read the epsidoe to find out!

A 20 year old case brings back a character from season six who is just as mean in this epsidoe as he was then! Krycek is shown a folder full of bureau complaints against him ... it's a pretty big folder! I wont say no more! You all just have to read the epsidoe to find out how brilliant it is!

FADE IN:

INT. OLD FBI ARCHIVES – MORNING

JUNE 15, 2005
WEDNESDAY

The room is quiet, short and each aisle is narrowly filled with boxes stacked to the ceiling with case files from long ago. Boxes block the overhead lights making the room dim, like an old library in the basement of a city building. A woman’s high heel shoes are heard on the tiled floor and Monica Reyes enters frame, gently running her hand across the several boxes as she aimlessly wanders through the old, musty FBI Archives, unknowingly searching for a case file. Above her a florescent light flickers. She stops and looks up at it, dropping her arm to her side, away from the old boxes.

HAUNTING MALE WHISPER
Monica...

Monica looks ahead of her, away from the light above. Her ears are alert having heard someone whisper her name. The whisper sent a chill through her. She shakes it off. Must have been her imagination.

She slowly starts to walk again, running her hand across the old files once again. Sensing that there is a reason for her to be here.

The light above her flickers again. She stops, keeping her hand on one of the files as she looks up at the florescent light. It flickers again, and this time she notices that it is the only light flickering, no other lights. Not even the previous light that flickered behind her a second ago.

HAUNTING MALE WHISPER
Hear me...

The whisper sends a chill through her once again. A cool breeze sways back and forth around her, sending more shivers through her body.

MONICA
(soft whisper)
I hear you.

She looks around her. She swears she heard someone. She tries to look between the shelves of files, but as far as she can tell, she is alone.

Has she gone mad? Or is someone trying to contact her?

Another cold breeze gives her goose bumps.

MONICA
Who are you? What do you want?

The room falls silent and the cold, swaying breeze stops.

Monica looks around. No one is there.

Suddenly, a breeze moves her hair, and a whisper passes by her left ear, moving behind her.

HAUNTING MALE WHISPER
Behind you...

The whisper turns her around to face an old case file that is slightly sticking out in the open for her to see. She reaches out and touches the file and the cold breeze disappears, leaving her all alone. Monica slowly removes the file.

CUT TO:

INT. SPENDER’S APARTMENT – BATHROOM - MORNING

Krycek stands in front of the bathroom mirror carefully drawing in his left eyebrow since the Janitor shaved it off a couple weeks ago. It still hasn’t grown back and he looks awful. Spender walks by the opened door, then back tracks and looks in to see what Krycek is doing.

SPENDER
Krycek, what are you doing?

KRYCEK
Nothin’.

SPENDER
No... I think you’re doin’
something. (beat) Why are
you still drawing in an eyebrow?

KRYCEK
(grumpy)
Because it hasn’t grown back yet.

SPENDER
Oh... I guess you haven’t matured
enough to have facial hair, huh?

Krycek stops what he’s doing and glares at him.

KRYCEK
Shut up.

Krycek goes back to what he’s doing and Spender smiles. He takes great amusement in watching Krycek “suffer” through his vanity.

SPENDER
Anyway... I’m off to work.
(beat) See you around.

Spender leaves with an amused expression on his face. Krycek grumbles as he continues to draw in an eyebrow.

CUT TO:

INT. THE DIRECTOR’S OUTER OFFICE – FBI HEADQUARTERS – MORNING

Brad Follmer sits on a couch waiting to be called into the Director’s office. He has no idea why he has been called here. Knowing the Director, she’s probably up to no good and wants something from him. Whatever it is, he’ll tell her what he told her the last time: He’s not interested.

Nothing disgusts Brad more than the current Director. He knows about her scandals within the Bureau, her bribes, etc. If this is another one of her attempts to get him to sleep with her in trade for him being promoted, he’s going to quit. He’s had enough. And he knows why she promoted A.D. Theodore Rose to head the Office of Professional Responsibility – he slept with her.

The intercom on the secretary’s desk buzzes and the Director’s voice instructs her to let Brad into her office. The secretary looks up and smiles politely at him.

SECRETARY
The Director will see you now.

Brad stands up and nods his head and goes over to the door and enters the Director’s office.

INT. THE DIRECTOR’S OFFICE – CONTINUOUS

Brad enters. The Director is sitting at her desk with Deputy Director Kersh in a seat in front of her.

THE DIRECTOR
Come in and have a seat, Assistant Director.

Brad observes the room and is glad that Kersh is here, maybe the Director won’t try to bribe him with sexual favors for promotion. Brad takes a seat next to Kersh.

BRAD
What’s this about, ma’am?

THE DIRECTOR
There have been some recent changes
within the Bureau this week. (beat)
Changes that I think you will find
approval with.

BRAD
And what changes are those?

THE DIRECTOR
We’ve had to let go of
Ted Rose in OPR.

Brad’s expression doesn’t change. He’s not shocked at all. Ted was the laziest Assistant Director in the Bureau and was only promoted to A.D. in Charge of OPR because he slept with The Director.

THE DIRECTOR
The Deputy Director and I called
you here this morning to offer you
a promotion to being the Assistant
Director in Charge of OPR.

Brad looks at her. Things are never this easy with her. What’s the catch?

BRAD
You’re offering to promote
me to heading OPR?

THE DIRECTOR
Yes, that is correct.

Brad looks over to Kersh to read him. Kersh is unreadable. Could this be serious?

BRAD
Why me? If you don’t mind
me asking. (beat) Whatever
happened to “I scratch your
back, while you scratch mine,
and no one has to know about it”?

The Director glares at him for repeating that, in front of the Deputy Director, what she told him after reassignments a year ago. Kersh gives Brad a look. He didn’t know about this, but he’s not surprised.

THE DIRECTOR
I’ve changed.

She glares at him.

THE DIRECTOR
Besides, the Deputy Director and I
feel that you are best qualified to
head OPR since you, obviously, go by
the book, enforce the book, and many
of us know just how... irritated you
have become with how some things are
handled in the Bureau. (beat) I realize
now, after Ted, that you were best fit
to head that office and that I made a
mistake promoting him instead of you.

Brad can’t help but smirk inside hearing the Director admit she was wrong.

THE DIRECTOR
If you want the promotion, the offer
will still be available to you through
out the week if you wish to have some
time to think about it. (beat) Go home
and discuss it with your finacé.

Brad smiles, remembering how Monica told him this morning during breakfast that something good was going to happen, and even though he may seem suspicious of it at first, he should take it.

BRAD
I’ll take it.

The Director looks at him in shock that he made his decision that quickly about it, and without discussing it with his fiancé.

THE DIRECTOR
Well, then congratulations.

BRAD
You know this means you’ll need
to find a new A.D. for the X-Files Division.

KERSH
Yes, we are aware of that. (beat) I
thought it best, and The Director agrees,
that you should be the one to make a
recommendation about that.

Brad nods his head and thinks for a moment.

BRAD
I believe Fox Mulder would head
the X-Files Division very well.

The Director looks at him blankly.

THE DIRECTOR
Fox Mulder is a Special Agent, not
an Assistant Director, Mr. Follmer.

BRAD
Yes, I know. (beat) That’s why it
would be called a promotion. (beat)
Agent Mulder has strong leadership
skills, an extensive background and
knowledge of cases within the X-Files
Division, and he certainly has more heart
for that assignment than anyone else in
the Bureau. (beat) I have no doubt he
could make vast improvements in that division.

Brad waits for a response from either one of them. Kersh and the Director share a look, neither one of them is sure about this recommendation.

THE DIRECTOR
Thank you Assistant Director. We’ll
consider your recommendation. (beat)
You may start your new job today if you
wish, unless you have some things to tie
up with the X-Files Division.

BRAD
Nothing to tie up for XFD. I took care
of everything before the weekend.

THE DIRECTOR
Very well. You may take the rest of
the day to move into your new office.

BRAD
Thank you, ma’am.

THE DIRECTOR
You’re dismissed.

Brad nods his head, gets up and leaves the office.

The Director lets out a sigh. Fox Mulder? He has to be kidding. She gives Kersh a look.

CUT TO:

INT. MULDER & KRYCEK’S OFFICE

Mulder, Krycek, Doggett, Scully, and Monica are all crammed into Mulder and Krycek’s tiny office space. Mulder sits at his desk, Krycek stands to the side of him. Monica sits on the front of the desk. Doggett stands in the front middle of the desk, and Scully sits in a chair to the side of the desk.

MONICA
It was the strangest thing.

Doggett rolls his eyes.

MONICA
I’m serious, John, so don’t roll
your eyes at me. (beat) I was just
wandering aimlessly and I heard someone
whisper my name. It was so strange because
then I felt this cold breeze just swaying
gently around me-

MULDER
(really into it)
-Like a ghost?

MONICA
Something like that I think. (beat)
The voice directed me-

DOGGETT
(under breath, joking)
- to the insane asylum –

MONICA
-to the files behind me. (beat)
Which is when I found this file
sticking out. But it wasn’t like
that before. I know because I was
running my hand across all the files.

Krycek looks pensive as Monica opens the case file and sets it on the desk.

KRYCEK
What were you doing there anyway?

MONICA
I don’t know. (beat) I just
felt I had to go. (beat) Maybe
I was called there and I just
don’t know it – John, I can hear
what you’re thinking, and it’s
not very nice.

She looks up at him, as does everyone else.

SCULLY
John? What are you thinking?

Scully looks at him with amusement because he looks rather guilty.

DOGGETT
I ain’t thinkin’ a thing.

MULDER
John, I hate to disappoint you,
but you are the world’s worst liar.

MONICA
He’s just thinking about how
he should have me committed
and locked up in a straight jacket.

SCULLY
Johnny, that’s not very nice.

DOGGETT
I was only joking.

He smiles, it was pretty funny to think about doing that though...

DOGGETT
I’m sorry.

MULDER
(to Monica; changing subject)
Anyhoo... what’s the case?

Monica turns a page in the open file folder to reveal a rather graphic crime scene photograph of a man in his thirties laying smashed on a sidewalk outside of a tall hotel building.

MONICA
This was Lance Woods, a successful
lawyer in New York City. He had a
beautiful wife, two children, and
a peaceful home. (beat) Then one day,
while on business here in Washington,
he jumps out of his eighteenth floor
hotel room window and kills himself.

Everyone listens.

MONICA
No suicide note, but it was still
a case closed because they believed
he committed suicide.

SCULLY
But that’s not what you think?

MONICA
No. I believe it was a homicide.

MULDER
Based on?

KRYCEK
I just think it’s a cide. Sui, homi...

Everyone ignores him... whatever...

MONICA
(re: Mulder)
Instinct. It’s why he called
me to this file. (beat) He knew
we could solve this case and let
him rest in peace – do not roll
your eyes at me, Johnny.

All eyes fall on John.

DOGGETT
What? I didn’t do anything.

MONICA
Oh but you were about to.

Doggett rolls his eyes.

SCULLY
There. He just rolled his eyes.

DOGGETT
Oh for cryin’ out loud!

Everyone laughs, and their laughter is interrupted by the phone ringing on Mulder’s desk.

Mulder takes a deep breath, trying to stop his laughter as he picks up the phone.

MULDER
Mulder. (beat) Yes, I’ll be right up.

Mulder hangs up the phone.

MULDER
Well, kiddies, I’ve got to head
up to the Director’s office. She
needs to see me.

SCULLY
What did you do?

MULDER
I don’t know... I guess we’ll see.

Mulder gets up with a smile and leaves his office.

DOGGETT
Okay, Monica... what’s your plan
with this case?

MONICA
I’m going to investigate it.

DOGGETT
And how is it an x-file?

KRYCEK
The way she found it.

Krycek smirks and Monica glares at him. She doesn’t like all the jokes going around about her gift. She can’t help it.

MONICA
It’s an unsolved case.

DOGGETT
But it says it’s solved.

MONICA
Do you believe everything
you read, Agent Doggett?

DOGGETT
Sometimes.

SCULLY
You do not, John.

DOGGETT
Shh.

He winks at Scully and she rolls her eyes at him.

MONICA
Well, I’ll bring it up to Brad,
explain it to him and he’ll agree.

She smiles confidently.

DOGGETT
All right then. (beat) But you know
that this is a case for you, Mulder
and Krycek, right? Not Dana and I.

Monica rolls her eyes at him.

MONICA
I know. (beat) I wouldn’t want such
a narrow mind working on it anyway.

Monica smiles jokingly at him as she picks up the case file from Mulder’s desk and heads towards the door.

MONICA
Ciao.

She leaves. Scully laughs.

DOGGETT
What’s so funny?

SCULLY
You.

DOGGETT
Me?

SCULLY
And how you’ll do anything not
to work on “paranormal mumbo-jumbo”.

Doggett smiles.

SCULLY
I think she’s come across a good
case, John. (beat) But you’re probably
afraid of how she found it, right?

KRYCEK
(under breath)
I am...

Doggett and Scully give him a look... is he serious?

TIME CUT TO:

INT. A.D. FOLLMER’S OLD OUTER OFFICE – 3:00 P.M.

Doggett, Scully, Monica and Krycek walk up to the office door.

SCULLY
Why did Brad call us up?

MONICA
I don’t know.

KRYCEK
I thought you were the psychic.

Monica glares at him.

DOGGETT
Knock it off, Krycek.

KRYCEK
Knock what off?

DOGGETT
Just stop.

KRYCEK
(mimicking Doggett)
Just stop.

Doggett glares.

DOGGETT
I mean it.

KRYCEK
I mean it.

SCULLY
John, just ignore him.

KRYCEK
John, just ignore him.

Monica rolls her eyes.

MONICA
Oh come on, just knock on the door.

KRYCEK
Just knock on the do-

Monica shoots a nasty glare at him that shuts him up. And to add the cherry on top:

MONICA
By the way... nice scar.

Monica turns and knocks on the office door with a smile on her face, knowing that the scar she gave Krycek over a year ago still bothers him.

Doggett and Scully look at Krycek, who is holding the side of his face where Monica whacked him a good one with his own knife before she was taken to The Facility. The scar just started to blend in and everyone who saw him everyday forgot about it... until now. Krycek has a scowl on his face. First the eyebrow incident, and now that damn scar is back to haunt him. He’s so vain.

The office door opens and Mulder stands in front of them.

MULDER
Come in.

DOGGETT
What did you do to Brad?

They all enter the office. Mulder looks at Krycek oddly. Why is he covering his face?

MULDER
Guys, I have an announcement.

KRYCEK
(mad)
Yeah? What’s that?

MULDER
Agent Spender has been shaving
off your eyebrow every night, Krycek.

Krycek’s eyes widen with anger. How dare he do that!

MULDER
(changing subject)
But the real exciting news is...
I just received a promotion to
Assistant Director in Charge
of the X-Files Division.

Mulder smiles proudly, holding in his urge to jump for joy to look more professional.

SCULLY
Oh my god! You’re kidding? That’s fantastic!

She goes up and hugs Mulder. Doggett extends his hand to shake Mulder’s in congratulations.

DOGGETT
Congra-

Mulder takes John’s hand and pulls him into a huge bear hug... his excitement is starting to come through.

MONICA
You’re going to be perfect at
this job. Congratulations. (beat)
But what happened to Brad?

KRYCEK
(angry at the world)
Maybe he go fired.

DOGGETT
I doubt it.

MULDER
He didn’t get fired. He got
promoted too! (beat) But he’ll
probably want to tell all of
you that himself.

Mulder smiles big because he knows. Monica smiles too, having just realized through her own means what promotion he got.

KRYCEK
So, does this mean it’s party time?

MULDER
No. Not under me, buster. (beat)
If I recall, Agent Reyes has a
case that you two need to investigate.
(beat) Oh yeah... Official partners.
Doggett with Scully. Reyes with Krycek.

Krycek smiles and winks at Monica. She rolls her eyes.

MULDER
And there will be none of that
Agent Krycek or I’ll be sending
you up to the Office of Professional
Responsibility where you’ll be taken
care of once and for all.

KRYCEK
Yeah, whatever.

Krycek rolls his eyes.

KRYCEK
Ted is a hoot and my pal.

Krycek heads towards the door and opens it. He turns and looks at Monica.

KRYCEK
Come on Agent Rey-ass, we’ve
got a J-O-B to do.

Monica glares at him. Mulder observes... he has a feeling their partnership won’t work well... Monica heads to the door.

MONICA
See you around, Assistant Director.

She smiles at Mulder and heads out the door.

SCULLY
So when is the party Mulder?

MULDER
Nope. No parties at work.

SCULLY
I’m not talking about a work party.
But maybe a party celebrating your’s
and Brad’s promotions. (beat) By the
way, where was Brad promoted to?

MULDER
(can’t hold it in)
He’s the head hancho of OPR now!

SCULLY
Wow! (beat) Ooh... Krycek doesn’t know that.

MULDER
Nope.

He smiles, and inside, he hopes Krycek does something stupid where he has to face OPR and Brad Follmer...

MULDER
So how about this weekend we
have a party to celebrate the
promotions.

SCULLY
Sounds good to me. Maybe I
can cook something...

Doggett and Mulder fall silent... she can’t cook and everyone knows it... how do they tell her?

SCULLY
(laughs)
Who am I kidding? I can’t cook.
(beat) I’ll bring drinks.

MULDER
That’s cool. (beat) But we really should
get back to work. I need to get used to
such a big office. I wonder where I’ll
put my “I Want To Believe” poster...

Off of Scully and Doggett’s looks...

TIME CUT TO:

INT. DANA SCULLY’S APARTMENT - KITCHEN – EVENING

Scully waits patiently next to her microwave as it whirls around her microwave fast and easy dinner. She just wasn’t in the mood to try to cook. Who knows, she’ll probably screw it up and the fire department will have to come to her rescue. The microwave beeps and Scully takes out her dinner just as there is a knock on her door.

She sets her dinner on the counter and runs to the door and looks out the peephole. She smiles and opens the door to be face to face with Doggett.

SCULLY
Hey.

DOGGETT
I hope you don’t mind me
coming over, but I thought-

The phone in her apartment rings, interrupting him. Scully smiles.

SCULLY
Come on in, John.

Doggett enters her apartment and she shuts the door behind him, then quickly runs to get the phone.

SCULLY
Hello?

There is silence on the other end and if one would listen carefully a slow deep breathing can be heard.

SCULLY
Hello?

She waits another moment then lets out a frustrated sigh and hangs up the phone.

DOGGETT
Who was that?

SCULLY
I don’t know, wrong number or
something. I’ve been getting
those kinds of calls a lot recently.

DOGGETT
Oh.

SCULLY
(changing subject)
So I was just about to sit
down and enjoy a Lean Cuisine
dinner. Want to join me?

Doggett smiles at her.

DOGGETT
I’ve got another plan
if you don’t mind...

SCULLY
Oh?

DOGGETT
Yeah. (beat) I was thinking maybe
we could go eat at this nice quiet
place I know and get some fresh air.
It’s a beautiful evening out.

SCULLY
I’m sure whatever you have in
your mind is better than a
microwave dinner.

Scully laughs.

SCULLY
I’d love to, John.

DOGGETT
All right. I’ll wait if you
need to get ready or something.

SCULLY
All right. I’ll be five minutes.

Scully smiles and runs off to her bedroom. John takes a seat on her couch and waits for what he expects to be over five minutes, knowing Scully...

CUT TO:

INT. BRAD & MONICA’S APARTMENT

Brad and Monica sit at the kitchen table and are eating their dinner: Brad’s famous steaks. Monica keeps looking at him, he hasn’t mentioned his promotion to her yet, but she suspects that he has some plan in his head for telling her. But does Monica really want to wait that long when she already knows? No.

MONICA
So, how was work today?

BRAD
Good. You?

MONICA
Good. (beat) Mulder got promoted
to Assistant Director. (beat) He’s
my new boss.

Brad nods his head and takes a sip of his ice water.

BRAD
Yeah, I heard about that.

MONICA
So... nothing exciting happened
today? (beat) I mean, you’re not in
charge of XFD any more... I assume
that they put you somewhere else, right?

Brad looks up at her and smiles.

BRAD
You assume correctly, Monica.

Monica waits eagerly for him to tell her about his promotion.

BRAD
I got promoted to the head of OPR.

He smiles at her.

MONICA
That’s fantastic, Brad.

Brad smiles.

MONICA
So what’s the first thing on
your list of things to do? Celebrate?

BRAD
I was thinking we could have a
little celebration of our own
tonight. (beat) Mulder called me
and said that he’s planning a
party sometime... not sure when.

MONICA
That will be fun. (beat) Does Kersh
realize that Mulder is in The Brotherhood now?

Brad laughs.

BRAD
I don’t think it’s hit him yet.

MONICA
That should be funny, huh?

BRAD
Yeah. (beat) So this case you dug
up? (beat) How’s that going?

MONICA
Well, I’m now partnered with Krycek
since Mulder got the promotion...

Brad looks up with concern.

MONICA (CON’T)
It’s going well I guess. We’re
working on victimology right now
so... we don’t have any leads.

BRAD
I can imagine that would be
difficult since you dug it
up from the old archives.

MONICA
Yeah. (beat) We went to talk to the M.E.
today. Apparently the photographs he took
have gone missing.

BRAD
Missing?

MONICA
Yeah. Suspicious. We’ll be digging
into it more tomorrow. Krycek decided
he was bored of working so he clocked out.

Brad rolls his eyes. That’s a very Krycek thing to do.

BRAD
You never did explain to me how
you came across this case file.

Monica looks down and takes a bite of her food.

MONICA
I just... I don’t know...

Brad can tell she’s hiding the truth from him.

MONICA (CON’T)
The victim directed me to the case.
(beat) I felt his presence in the
room with me, he whispered to me
and before I knew it, I had
the case file in my hand.

Brad nods his head. He knows this means she hasn’t been taking her medication like she’s supposed to. Monica reads into him, knowing that he’s thinking about how she hasn’t taken her medication. And she hasn’t. She’d rather not live a life being controlled by drugs. She had enough of that at the Facility.

BRAD
That’s interesting.

MONICA
(knowing he’s mad)
Yeah.

They both look down at their food and finish their meals in silence. An awkward silence.

Brad gets up and takes his plate over to the sink and rinses it off.

BRAD
(casual)
Have you taken your medicine?

Monica looks up at him. She knew that question was coming.

MONICA
(hesitant)
No.

She stands up from the table and takes her plate over to the sink and stands next to Brad.

BRAD
Why not?

MONICA
Because.

Brad takes her plate and rinses if off in the sink.

BRAD
You need to take your med-

MONICA
-I’d rather not, okay?

Brad sets the plate down and turns off the water. He turns to face her and look her in the eyes.

BRAD
Monica, you need to take your
medicine. I don’t know how many
times we’re going to have to argue
this until you understand-

MONICA
-You don’t understand, Brad. (beat)
They won’t help me, they only make
me feel worse, all right?

She turns and walks out of the kitchen. Brad follows.

INT. LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS

Monica sits down on the couch and flips on the television, hoping to ignore the inevitable fight.

Brad comes in and turns off the television.

BRAD
Monica.

Monica looks up at him. She’s not happy.

BRAD
The medicine is supposed to help
you, okay? I only want what’s best-

MONICA
-Then don’t make me take the-

BRAD
(frustrated)
-Monica, I don’t want to argue
this with you-

MONICA
-Yeah, and you also don’t want
to hear my reasons why.

She glares at him.

BRAD
Dr. Montgomery knows what’s
best for you-

MONICA
-You’re going to listen to
the man that made me this way?

Brad lets out a sigh to calm himself. He goes over to the couch and sits next to her.

BRAD
Monica...

She looks away from him.

BRAD (CON’T)
The medicine is going to help you
control the condition that you have.

MONICA
I can control it on my own.
(beat) I’ve been working on it.

BRAD
Meaning you haven’t been taking
your medicine, right?

MONICA
Yes.

BRAD
Monica-

MONICA
-They don’t help, Brad. And you
can’t even begin to tell me what
to do and order me to take those
pills because you don’t know what
it’s like. You don’t know, okay?
You’ll never know, and I hope to
god you never find out what I’m
going through and what it feels
like because it’s hell. Those pills
don’t help me. They make me forget
things and get headaches. (beat) I
think you only want me to take them
so you don’t have to deal with me.
(beat) It’s only a false-

BRAD
-Monica-

MONICA
(raising voice above him)
-It’s only a false hope for you that
I’m getting better. Dr. Montgomery knows
nothing about what I’m going through. What
he did to me, he did because I was his lab
rat and he could care less. And if you’re
going to listen to him, you might as well
just leave because I don’t want to be around
you if that’s how it’s going to be!

Monica gets up and goes into the bedroom. Brad sits there for a moment, letting everything she just said sink in. He calmly gets up and goes into the bedroom.

INT. BEDROOM – CONTINUOUS

If Monica didn’t want him to follow her, she would’ve slammed the door and he would know that that means he’s stuck on the couch for the night. He calmly goes over to her. She’s crying on the bed, facing away from him. He goes around to the other side so he can face her. He kneels down and looks into her eyes. She doesn’t turn away from him.

BRAD
(soft)
Moni... You’re right. I don’t know.
I don’t know what happened to you, or
what is happening to you. (beat) But
I need you to help me understand so
I can help you, because I want to help you.

Monica wipes the tears from her eyes.

MONICA
Then understand that I don’t want to
be kept on the drugs Dr. Montgomery
says I have to take.

BRAD
Why?

MONICA
Because every time I have to take
them, it reminds me of being at
that place. (beat) It reminds me of-

She chokes up on her tears and doesn’t want to go on. She doesn’t have to because Brad knows exactly what she’s talking about. The daughter they lost and all the suffering she went through.

MONICA
I just... I don’t want to, okay?

BRAD
Okay... Can I ask-

MONICA
-About what I see?

BRAD
Yeah.

MONICA
I hate it, Brad. (beat) I’m trying
to find a way to block it on my own,
through natural means because I believe
I can. But it’s... it’s hard. I just
hate it. Sometimes I can stop it, and
other times I can’t. (beat) It’s unpredictable.

BRAD
When I went to see your Grandmama,
she told me that when you were younger
you had a gift... like this...

MONICA
Yes. But it went away as I got
older. I don’t know how to control
it, or even if I did as a kid.

BRAD
Is there a way that maybe you
could ask your Grandmama how
she controls it when she wants?

MONICA
I could...

BRAD
Maybe we could take a trip-

MONICA
-Oh, no, that’s not necessary.

Brad looks at her confused. Then how will you ask her?

MONICA
I’m very close to my Grandmama.

Monica sits up on the bed in a meditation sitting position. Brad looks up at her.

MONICA
Okay, so you don’t freak out, I’m going
to tell you what I’m doing because I
anticipate that you’re going to be worried.
(beat) Do you believe in mental telepathy?

BRAD
Between you and your Grandmama? Sure.

MONICA
Okay. I’m going to “go under” and
find her in this void and talk to
her that way. Okay?

BRAD
Go under?

MONICA
Yeah, like this.

Monica shuts her eyes and her body relaxes. Brad watches her for a moment.

BRAD
Monica?

No answer from Monica... guess she’s “gone under”.

CUT TO:

INT. MARITA COVARRUBIAS’S APARTMENT – LATE EVENING

Marita sits on her couch, watching Krycek pace back and forth in front of her.

KRYCEK
I mean. He’s my boss. He’s
the head hancho. He controls my pay!

MARITA
Sasha, really... I don’t think there’s
anything you need to worry about. It’s
Mulder. He’s a good agent.

KRYCEK
Yeah, but he’s my boss. He
hates me that’s why he kicked me out
and I now have to live with Spender.
(beat) Which I had to leave because
he was just tickled and thrilled about
his brother’s promotion. Which, I honestly
think is just in spite of me. (beat) And you
know what else he’s done?

Marita lets out a sigh.

KRYCEK
He’s been re-shaving off my eyebrow
every night to keep my beauty from
returning to normal. Mulder told me so!

MARITA
Alex, the world does not revolve
around you. (beat) Mulder is a
good agent and I’m sure he’ll do
just fine as A.D. of your division.

KRYCEK
But it’s Mulder.

Krycek comes over to the couch and plops down. He lets out a sigh.

KRYCEK
I just feel so horrible.

MARITA
I have a feeling this isn’t
about the promotion, is it?

KRYCEK
It’s not about that, you’re right.
(beat) It’s about me and my ego. I
can’t believe I mucked everything up
and now everyone hates me.

MARITA
Not everyone hates you, Sasha.

Krycek looks up at her.

KRYCEK
I know. (beat) But I’ve screwed up
bad. You know?

MARITA
Yes, I know.

KRYCEK
I just... I hate how I let my
ego get the better of me.

MARITA
Me too. (beat) You can be very
sweet when you let your true
side show. You know that, right?

KRYCEK
Yeah, I know...

MARITA
So stop bitching about Mulder’s
promotion and realize that there
isn’t anything you can do to change it.

KRYCEK
I know...

Marita leans over and kisses him. Right now, it feels that Marita is the only person who understands him and will love him no matter what he does. But he needs to be careful and not muck everything up again. He wants to get on everyone’s good sides again so things can return to normal. Life is too short to muck up any more... especially with alien colonization going to happen in a year...

CUT TO:

EXT. PARK – LATE EVENING

The moonlight shines down on Doggett and Scully as they lay on a picnic blanket staring up at the stars.

This was much better than a microwave dinner and eating inside. That’s why Scully loves Doggett so much. He always seems to know when she’s got a boring evening planned and he comes over and makes it all the more better for her.

SCULLY
It seems like forever since I’ve
had a chance to look up at the stars
and have some peace, you know?

DOGGETT
Me too. It’s good to get out
and enjoy the fresh air.

Scully smiles.

SCULLY
I hope Buddy won’t be upset
that we went to the park without him.

DOGGETT
He might. (beat) But we just won’t
tell him we also went for a W-A-L-K.

Scully laughs and stares up at the stars.

In one year alien colonization will begin. Scully wonders if they are up there now, looking down at them, planning out their attack. Are any of the stars above one of their crafts? She sounds like Mulder inside of her head, but she knows better than to disregard what she knows. It’s impossible to ignore since she went to The Facility in New York and helped find the vaccine. Well, she didn’t exactly find the vaccine, John Montgomery did, and he found it in Monica. Despite all she knows, Scully doesn’t know what to think of the colonization. How is there a way to fight back and be prepared for it if no one knows yet? And how will she tell John Doggett. He would never believe her. She wonders what he must think of Monica’s condition and why it had to happen. Scully lets out a sigh. Life is too short...

Doggett looks over at her.

DOGGETT
What are you thinking?

Scully looks over at him. She hadn’t even noticed that he was watching her. She doesn’t know what to tell him. He’d never believe in alien colonization...

SCULLY
(after a beat)
About how I’m happy to be
with you. (beat) And how
you’re not bad men.

She smiles at him.

SCULLY
I’ve had a lot of bad men in my
life, John, and I’m glad that
you are not one of them. You’ve
proven to me that you’re not.
I’m just thankful to have you.

Scully moves herself over to him and gives him a small kiss on the cheek. He smiles at her, happy that he makes her happy because that is what is most important to him.

Scully returns her attention back to the sky. She really hopes to see a shooting star tonight. She hasn’t seen one of those in forever. Doggett watches her and smiles.

CUT TO:

INT. KRYCEK/REYES FBI OFFICE – THE NEXT DAY

JUNE 16, 2005
THURSDAY

Krycek and Monica are working at one desk with all the information out in front of them about the suicide case of Lance Woods.

KRYCEK
(frustrated)
There isn’t anything to go on, Monica.

MONICA
How can you say that when we’ve got
missing photographic evidence? (beat)
You’re just not looking hard enough.

KRYCEK
This is bull shit. We’ve been through
this case front and back all day.
(beat) I say we forget about it. It’s a
cold case and there’s nothing we can do.

MONICA
This man was murdered and we need
to find out by who and why.

KRYCEK
We need? How about you need.

Monica gives him an irritated look.

MONICA
We’re both on this case, Agent Krycek.

KRYCEK
It’s a dumb case, Agent Reyes. (beat)
All leads go no where. There’s nothing more
we can do. That’s why this case was closed
so many years ago. (beat) We work on the
X-Files to find paranormal cases, not
cold cases with nowhere to go. (beat) If anything
I think the X-Files unit should investigate you!

Krycek leans back in his chair. Monica glares at him.

MONICA
I’m going to ignore that you said that.
(beat) Lance’s soul is not at rest because
of this murder. It’s our job-

KRYCEK
-He’s a dead dude! He’s gone.
No more! Nothing we do here is
going to make the after life
better for him.

MONICA
How can you say that? He contacted
me about this. I just can’t ignore
it, Agent Krycek. He’s a victim. Dead
or alive, he’s a victim.

KRYCEK
Whatever.

Krycek throws his feet up on the desk, knocking papers to the ground. Monica glares at him and goes to pick them up, knowing that he won’t.

While on the ground, Monica picks up a paper and a name catches her attention: Robert Clark. The New York senator who’s daughter was kidnapped and then murdered back in the winter of 2003.

Monica comes back up from the ground with this newly discovered information with an awestruck expression on her face.

MONICA
Oh my god...

KRYCEK
What?

MONICA
Senator Robert Clark...

KRYCEK
That one Senator from New York
who blamed you for his daughter’s
murder and got you suspended because
of it? The same Senator who got re-elected
and used his daughter’s death to gain
voter sympathy?

MONICA
Yeah, that’s him.

She hands the information over to Krycek.

KRYCEK
What does he have to do with this?

MONICA
I don’t know... but it’s a lead.

KRYCEK
How?

MONICA
My instinct tells me it is.

KRYCEK
This isn’t some sort of Reyes Revenge
on the Senator because he got you
suspended, is it?

MONICA
Oh please... if Reyes Revenge were
to strike against him, it wouldn’t
be to accuse him of killing someone.
(beat) I think we need to question
him. He was in D.C. when Woods was
killed-

KRYCEK
-Correction. Committed suicide. We
don’t have hard evidence that he was
killed so don’t jump to conclusions.

Monica gives him a look.

MONICA
Listen, this is a lead because
he was there. We can’t just ignore
the fact that he was in D.C. the night
Woods plummeted to his death.

Monica stands and gets her jacket from the coat wrack. Krycek watches her.

KRYCEK
You mean we’re going now?

MONICA
What else are we doing? We need
to question him. (beat) Come on.

She leaves the office. Krycek gets up with a sigh and grabs his leather jacket and heads out of the office, and right into...

INT. HALLWAY – CON’T

Krycek bumps into the Janitor, but doesn’t realize that it’s him.

KRYCEK
Hey, watch it pal!

He looks up and sees that he’s looking up at the Janitor.

KRYCEK
(scared; covers his eye brow)
Oh shit.

JANITOR
You better be nice to her,
Agent Krycek. (beat) I know
when you misbehave.

The Janitor passes by him with his mob and carries on with his work. Krycek quickly gets out of there to catch up to Monica.

TIME CUT TO:

INT. SENATOR CLARK’S OFFICE – NEW YORK

Senator Bob Clark opens his office door to see Monica and Krycek. He had been told the FBI was here to see him, but he had no idea it was Agent Reyes, the one he believed the FBI got rid of because of his daughter’s murder. He looks at Monica and glares at her.

SENATOR CLARK
(bitter/assholish)
Agent Reyes, I thought the FBI
got rid of you long ago.

MONICA
We need to ask you a few questions, Senator.

The senator moves to the side to let them into his office.

SENATOR CLARK
So what is this about?

KRYCEK
Lance Woods.

SENATOR CLARK
Who?

He signals for them to take a seat in front of his desk.

KRYCEK
He was a lawyer up in New York, and
friend of yours, back in the eighties.

Senator Clark thinks for a moment. It’s been a long time since the 1980s.

SENATOR CLARK
Oh yes, I remember him. I went to
law school with him at Harvard. (beat)
What does the FBI need to know about him?

Monica eyes him suspiciously. He had to think about a person he knew since Law School?

MONICA
He committed suicide back in 1985.

SENATOR CLARK
Yes, he did.

MONICA
Since you were his friend, we were
hoping you would be able to tell us
anything about him, or anything during
that time that may have lead him to
taking his own life.

SENATOR CLARK
It was a long time ago, Agent Reyes.
He probably couldn’t handle the stress
of his job. (beat) I don’t really know
what could’ve made him do it at the time.
It was two decades ago.

MONICA
Reports say that you were the
one who found him and reported
the incident. (beat) What were
you doing in Washington, D.C. then?

SENATOR CLARK
Agent Reyes, it was twenty years ago.
How exactly do you expect me to remember
something from that long ago?

MONICA
Were you, or were you not working
against him in court during that time?-

SENATOR CLARK
-The FBI has more important things
to do than waste my time about a
man who killed himself twenty years ago.

He glares at her. Krycek gives her a look, how did she know that?

SENATOR CLARK
Now, if you don’t mind, I have
a lot of work to do.

MONICA
Actually, I do mind, Senator. (beat)
You were working on a rape case back
then weren’t you? Isn’t that the case
where he was the prosecutor and you
decided to defend the man being accused?

SENATOR CLARK
I do not have time for this, Agent Reyes.

Monica eyes him closely. Perhaps she was getting somewhere close with him.

SENATOR CLARK
You should leave. I have more
important things to do than
help the FBI with a case that’s
twenty years old.

He stands up and goes to his door and opens it. Monica and Krycek get up.

MONICA
Thank you for your time, Senator. (beat)
Here’s my card if you think of anything
in the future that could help this investigation.

He glares at her as she hands him her card. He snatches it from her and glares at her as she passes by him. Krycek follows.

CUT TO:

INT. HALLWAY – CON’T

Senator Clark slams his office door.

KRYCEK
What an asshole.

MONICA
Is that your official statement?

KRYCEK
Yeah.

MONICA
I think he did it. I don’t know why,
but I think he did. He was at the scene when
it happened, and I just don’t get
a good feeling from him. (beat) Something
went down that night that lead him to
murdering Woods.

KRYCEK
So how do we find out?

MONICA
We go back in time. Find out what
case Woods had and how it could affect
the Senator’s case. (beat) I have a feeling
he’s not one to want to loose a case.

Krycek nods his head and follows her out of the building.

CUT TO:

INT. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOX MULDER’S OFFICE – DAY

Mulder sits in his new office, at his new desk, with a smile on his face. He can’t believe that he is in charge of the X-Files Division. This has been his dream. And seriously, he has dreamed of the day where he got to be the head hancho. He looks around his office and smiles.

There is a knock on his door.

MULDER
(professional)
Come in.

Doggett and Scully enter his office.

DOGGETT
Hello, assistant director.

Mulder smiles.

SCULLY
We just thought we’d come see
how you decorated the office.

MULDER
Nothing to do down there?

DOGGETT
Not right now.

MULDER
I’m sure I could find you
something to do.

SCULLY
(humored)
Oh my god. (beat) Mulder, you put
your poster up in an A.D. office.

Doggett looks to where Scully is. She has made her way over to a framed “I Want To Believe” poster with lights beaming up at it, lighting it to show it off.

Mulder smiles and gets up. Doggett stands in shock. Never in his life did he think he’d ever see the “I Want To Believe” poster framed and hanging in an office made for an assistant director.

MULDER
Doesn’t it just fit?

DOGGETT
(shock)
Oh my god.

SCULLY
I think it looks fantastic.

MULDER
Thanks. (beat) I thought it would
be fitting to have such a poster
hanging up in the office that heads
the XFD. It kind of brings a whole
package type feel to the division, you know?

SCULLY
Yeah. I don’t feel so disconnected
from the chain of command now. (beat)
What a great idea, Mulder.

MULDER
I know.

DOGGETT
It wouldn’t be your office without it.

MULDER
Very true.

SCULLY
I like that you got it framed.
The light shines off of it, I
like it.

MULDER
I don’t think it would look
very professional if I had
a poster tacked on the wall here.

DOGGETT
So, have you had your first
meeting as an A.D. yet?

MULDER
Yep. (beat) And Kersh realized that
I was now in The Brotherhood.

Mulder laughs.

MULDER
I think everyone is a little shocked
that I got a promotion. (beat) Brad
isn’t. He recommended me for the job.

DOGGETT
Well I’m glad they listened.

MULDER
Me too. I have some big plans in
mind for how I want to make improvements
to the division. (beat) Don’t get me
wrong, I think Brad ran the place
very well... but I have my own ideas, and
there is no need to worry, they aren’t
like Skinner’s laziness. (beat) And Scully,
just so you know, I’ve already put in for
a desk to be put into your office.

Scully’s eyes light up with surprise.

SCULLY
(shock)
Really? (beat) After all these
years, I finally get a desk?

MULDER
Yep, and a nameplate.

Scully’s jaw drops open.

SCULLY
Would it be unprofessional
of me to hug you?

Mulder laughs.

MULDER
A hug isn’t necessary.

SCULLY
Well thank you, sir.

Mulder smiles big. He likes being called “sir”.

CUT TO:

INT. KRYCEK/REYES FBI OFFICE – DAY

Monica is at her desk, deep in thought looking through a lot of paperwork from the case Lance Woods was working on in 1985 before he fell to his death. Krycek is sitting at his desk with a lot of paperwork in front of him, but he is nowhere near into his work. Instead, he is looking at Monica blankly as he becomes bored with the case.

A strand of Monica’s hair falls from behind her ear and she moves it back into place. Krycek watches and tilts his head. She lets out a little cough and leans back in her chair as she reads a document. She holds a pen in her hand and randomly fidgets with it near her lips. Krycek cocks an eyebrow. There is just something sexy about her sitting there totally unaware that she is being watched by him.

KRYCEK
So, Agent Reyes...

Monica doesn’t look up at him.

MONICA
Hmm?

KRYCEK
I uh...

Krycek stands up and walks over to her.

KRYCEK
I couldn’t help but notice how
sexy you look today.

Monica stops reading, but doesn’t look up at him. Is he serious?

KRYCEK
So how about you and I,
you know... do a little
hanky panky in the office?

Monica lets out a sigh and sets the paperwork down. She looks up at him.

MONICA
Agent Krycek, we have work to
do. (beat) And what would make
you think I’d want to do...
a little “hanky panky” with you?

KRYCEK
Well, you’re hot, I’m hot,
we’d have hot sex.

Monica blinks in disbelief. Is this really happening? Are these things actually coming out of his mouth? Does he have no respect?

Krycek on the other hand, takes her silence of disbelief as an opportunity to lean down and stick his tongue down her throat. Monica pushes him away.

MONICA
Ugh! What is wrong with you?

She stands up and backs away from him.

KRYCEK
Come on, baby. (beat; seductive)
I know you want me...

He comes towards her, unbuttoning his shirt as he gets her cornered in the office.

MONICA
Alex please, don’t flatter yourself.
(beat) And get out of my way.

He puts both his arms up around her, trapping her between him and the wall.

KRYCEK
Come on baby.

He kisses her again and grabs her chest. Monica forcefully pushes him away from her. This is the last thing she needs.

MONICA
Get off of me!

KRYCEK
Come on-

Suddenly, Krycek is hit hard across the face by Monica’s fist... the Reyes Punch as they like to call it. Krycek falls to the ground, and unfortunately for Monica, her Reyes Punch is a little weaker than before and Krycek is not knocked out.

KRYCEK
(shocked)
Owie...

MONICA
I guess that ring on your hand
doesn’t mean that much to you
after all. Perhaps Marita should
hear about this.

Monica steps over him and leaves the office.

KRYCEK
(helpless on the floor)
Help me... I hurt...

A man coughs at the office door. Krycek looks in the direction, hoping someone has come to help him. Unfortunately for Alex Krycek he sees the Janitor standing in the doorway with his mop.

KRYCEK
Oh shit...

JANITOR
You’re in pain. (beat) I like that.

The Janitor takes a step towards him.

KRYCEK
(scared)
Oh god, please no. Don’t hurt my beauty again.

The Janitor smiles at him.

Krycek’s eyes widen in fear as the Janitor takes another step closer to him.

CUT TO:

INT. A.D. BRAD FOLLMER’S OPR OFFICE

Brad is placing a trophy from a fencing competition up on one of the shelves of his bookshelf. Monica comes through the door without knocking. Brad looks over at her and knows immediately that something is wrong.

BRAD
Monica?

MONICA
Sir, I need to file a sexual
harassment complaint against
Special Agent Krycek.

Brad goes over to his desk, as does Monica. He’s not surprised to hear this come from her. He’s looked through the files in OPR and saw that Simon and Ted did nothing about any sexual harassment complaints filed against Alex Krycek.

BRAD
Are you okay?

MONICA
(furious)
I was working on the case when
all of a sudden Krycek is standing
near me asking me if I want to do
have a little hanky panky with him
because “we could have hot sex.”
(beat) So I tell him ‘no’, obviously,
and before I know it he sticks his tongue
down my throat. (beat) So I get up
and back away from him and then he
corners me, sticks his tongue down
my throat again and gropes me.

Brad looks at her in shock. Not that he’s shocked Alex did something like this, but shocked at the fact that he did it to her after all the hell he’s caused her in the past.

BRAD
All right. (beat) I’ll need you
to fill this out and I will take
care of this problem.

Brad hands her some paperwork.

MONICA
(mad)
Gladly.

She takes the paper documents, a pen, and starts to fill out the complaint.

TIME CUT TO:

INT. BRAD FOLLMER’S OPR OFFICE – HALF HOUR LATER

Brad sits at his desk, wearing glasses, looking through paperwork. A large stack of files is at the edge of his desk. There is a loud knock on the office door.

BRAD
Come in.

Alex Krycek opens the door. His hair is wet, and the top of his shirt is wet...

KRYCEK
Hey British boy, wuzz up?

Brad looks up at him and takes his glasses off.

BRAD
Have a seat please, Agent Krycek.

KRYCEK
Sure thing, homeboy.

Krycek sits down in front of Brad’s desk.

BRAD
A concern about you has been
reported, Agent Krycek.

KRYCEK
Yeah? What’s dat?

BRAD
A sexual harassment complaint.

KRYCEK
I don’t know what you’re
talking about- Wait a sec.
Why isn’t my pal Ted here?

BRAD
Ted got fired. (beat) I’m in
charge of OPR now.

Krycek’s facial expression turns to panic. He’s done a lot of shit and he knows Brad Follmer isn’t like Simon or Ted... Brad smiles when he sees his panic.

BRAD
Why did you sexually harass
Agent Reyes in your office?

KRYCEK
She wanted me to.

BRAD
(doubtful)
She wanted you to?

KRYCEK
Yeah dat’s right.
I’m da man.

Brad leans back in his chair.

BRAD
Are you familiar with the
rules and regulations of
the Bureau, Agent Krycek?

KRYCEK
Yeah, I am. (beat) But I
have a complaint about the
Janitor. (beat) He mopped me.

BRAD
And why did he mop you?

KRYCEK
I don’t know. He’s an asshole.

BRAD
Agent Krycek... you’re suspended
for two months for sexually harassing
numerous female agents in the Bureau.

KRYCEK
No way!

BRAD
I also want you to be mentally
evaluated. Just so we can make
sure you are fit to be an agent.

KRYCEK
No! And you can’t make me!

BRAD
Are you refusing?

KRYCEK
Yeah I am! (beat) I ain’t sexually
harassed any female in the FBI.

BRAD
(knowing better)
Really?

KRYCEK
Yeah, dats right.

Brad picks up the large stack of files and slams them in front of Krycek.

BRAD
Then what’s this?

KRYCEK
A large stack of files.

BRAD
Files containing thousands
of sexual harassment complaints
all against you in the past three
years. (beat) How do you explain that?

KRYCEK
They’re all lies. You have
no proof that I did any of it.

BRAD
Over one thousands complaints.

He can’t stress that any more to Krycek.

KRYCEK
So.

BRAD
Suspension stands, along with
the mental evaluation.

KRYCEK
Fuck you a-hole! I ain’t
goin’ no where, and you
can’t stop me! So HA!

Brad stares at him blankly. He can’t believe he is hearing this come out of him.

BRAD
So you’re refusing?

KRYCEK
Yes. Indeed I am.

Krycek leans back in his chair... acting like “DA Man”.

Brad shakes his head.

BRAD
Okay. All right. Hear me out.

Krycek glares at him with his “punk look”.

Brad pulls out some more files.

BRAD
Do you know what these are?

KRYCEK
What?

BRAD
A collection of files of everything
you have done wrong since entering the FBI.

Krycek looks at the large stack.

BRAD
Let’s go through this, shall we?

Krycek doesn’t say anything. He’s bribed all the past heads of OPR to keep all of this a secret so he could keep his job. But he hasn’t bribed Brad. He had no idea Brad was in OPR. He is panicked.

BRAD
Let’s see... you have the tendency
to skip town for personal road trips
or adventures to go on “spook hunts”,
to Roswell, Disney Land. Numerous physical
assaults and attacks against Agent Mulder, Alfredo,
Doggett, Scully, Reyes, Skinner, Spender, Harrison...

KRYCEK
Hey, Harrison was justified.

BRAD (CON’T)
Smoked pot in the restrooms here
at the Bureau.

Krycek’s eyes widen. All of that is on record? Who ratted him out?

BRAD (CON’T)
Offensive behavior towards other agents,
superiors, civilians while on a case.
Adolescent arguments. Threatening A.D.
Skinner with something called “nano-bots”.

Brad flips through files.

BRAD
Oh, yes. Giving Agent Alfredo a
swirly too. (beat) Inappropriate
dress code. You run amuck through
the hallways, bring personal problems
into the work environment. You got Agent
Scully drunk and made her strip in Las
Vegas. (beat) And holy god, you blew up
an elevator in the FBI two Christmases ago
and held your fellow agents and superiors,
including myself, the Deputy Director and
The Director, hostage in that same situation
for 2.3 million dollars. (beat) You raped
Monica Reyes in London.–

KRYCEK
-She never said “no”. She was drunk!-

BRAD (CON’T)
-You tried to kill Agent Doggett and
Reyes. And are responsible for the
disappearance of Agents Scully and
Reyes last year.

Krycek gulps in fear.

BRAD (CON’T)
You’re immature and irresponsible on
any case you work. Have no respect for
your co-workers. You’re priorities are
not straight at all. You use your FBI
credentials to get free food. Glitter
bombs in the basement. Harass the Janitor -
an employee of this building. (beat) You
knocked out Agent Doggett so you could
watch strippers while on an undercover
assignment last year.

He looks up at Krycek.

BRAD
(after a beat)
And this is only the surface of
everything you have done. (beat)
You do not respect the Federal Government,
or the FBI, and if I remember correctly...
I told you once that if you did not
respect the badge that you wear I would
have your badge and weapon. (beat) Well
Mr. Krycek, I think I have enough here
in front of me to fire you.

Krycek’s eyes widen. FIRED?!

KRYCEK
You can’t do that! I’m Alex Krycek!
I’m DA Man! I’m... I... I...

BRAD
You’re fired. F-I-R-E-D. Fired.

Krycek glares at him.

BRAD
Give me your weapon and your badge.
I will call security to escort you
out of this building.

KRYCEK
(mad)
Oh I’ll give you a piece of my weapon!

Brad goes for the phone, just as Krycek pulls out his gun and fires at him. He misses. Brad doesn’t even flinch.

BRAD
You can’t even fire your weapon.

Krycek glares at him. He’s pissed. More than pissed. This is the worst thing to ever happen to him.

BRAD
As far as I’m concerned, you aren’t
even a federal agent because there is
no record of you going through the Academy.
(beat) Now give me your badge and weapon.

Brad gives him a stern look. Krycek blinks in disbelief.

He’s fired. No more. No more credentials. No more case files. No more nothing. Brad Follmer fired him. Doggett was right... the first chance Brad got he would fire him. And he did. Brad did it. Krycek is fired. No longer a Special Agent of anything.

Off of Krycek’s disbelief...

TIME CUT TO:

INT. MARITA’S APARTMENT – EVENING

Marita holds Krycek in her arms as he cries. He’s never been fired from any job before... Not even when he worked at Burger Boy – the crappy fast food “restaurant” he worked at for three years in the 1980s.

MARITA
There, there, Sasha. It’s not
the end of the world. (beat) And
you must admit, it’s not like you
didn’t have it coming...

KRYCEK
(upset)
That doesn’t help me!

MARITA
You harassed Monica, Alex.
And I know you’ve done that
to many other female agents.
(beat) Do you know what it’s
like for me to hear about that?

Krycek looks up at her.

MARITA
It hurts me, Alex. (beat) I
love you, but sometimes I just
think that you see me as some
kind of sex object.

Krycek sits up straight. He’s done crying now.

KRYCEK
(serious)
I don’t think that Marita. I
don’t. Not one bit at all. (beat)
You are my all, my love, my Marita Lynn.

MARITA
Then if I’m your all, your love,
your Marita Lynn... will you treat
me like it and stop hitting on
other women? (beat) I’m wearing this
ring because it means something to me,
and I know it means a lot to you too, Alex.

She looks into his eyes with sincerity.

MARITA
(after a beat)
You need to shape up, Alex. I want
to spend the rest of my life with
you, but I can’t if you continue
to act like this. (beat) You’ve hurt
our friends, and I’m sure Monica did
not appreciate you sticking your tongue
down her throat and cornering her. (beat)
You know what I mean?

KRYCEK
I’m sorry, Marita. (beat) I’ll
shape up, okay? I promise because
we’re married and it means worlds to me.

Marita smiles and kisses him on the cheek.

MARITA
So what are you going to do now?

KRYCEK
I don’t know. I wasn’t
planning on getting fired today.

Marita nods her head.

KRYCEK
Would it be too much to ask
if I could stay here for the
night. I’m really not in the
mood to hear Mulder pogo stick
all night, or hear Spender laugh
at me for getting fired.

MARITA
That’s fine with me.

Marita smiles at him. At least he’s settled down about this situation. But he did have it coming so she can’t sympathize with him.

CUT TO:

INT. MONICA REYES’S FBI OFFICE – THE NEXT DAY

JUNE 17, 2005
FRIDAY

After Krycek got fired, Mulder had to assign himself to be Monica’s temporary partner until he can find a suitable replacement. And knowing Mulder, and his love for fieldwork, that might take a while. Besides, he has to make sure a new agent is qualified enough to be on the X-Files Division. He doesn’t need someone who doesn’t care about the cases. That wouldn’t work at all.

MONICA
I’m telling you Mulder... this dream
I had... it means everything to this
case. Everything. I didn’t put the pieces
together until last night when I couldn’t
sleep. I know what happened, Mulder. All
the vivid images have come together.

MULDER
Wait... let me get this straight...
You’re dream was about the time when
Senator Clark got mad at you and pushed
you back on that one case where his
daughter got killed, right?

MONICA
Right. And then I saw visions of
him discussing something intensely
with Lance Woods. And then he pushed
him out the window.

MULDER
Do you know why he did that?

MONICA
I don’t know for sure, but I’m
guessing it has to do with this
rape case. (beat) I looked into it
this morning before you came in.
Evidence is missing from the girl’s
rape kit the hospital did on her.
(beat) I think Senator Clark did it
and Woods found out about it, which is
why he was murdered.

MULDER
We’re going to need more proof
than a bad dream and theories.

MONICA
Don’t all these cases start with
a leap of faith? A blind hunch?

Mulder looks down. She knows how he works.

MULDER
Okay, but we don’t have proof.
We just can’t go in there and
arrest him based on your dreams
and visions. No judge will buy that.

MONICA
Then we’ll go talk to him. (beat) Do you trust me?

MULDER
Yes, I trust you, but you can’t
just go there based on dreams.

MONICA
Aren’t you the one who said that
dreams are answers to questions
we don’t yet know how to ask?

MULDER
Yes.

MONICA
But with me it’s different because
of my Gift. I can’t deny what I have
and how it affects me. (beat) I believe
that this is true. Do you trust my gift?

Mulder looks into her eyes.

MULDER
Do you? (beat) Do you trust it?

Monica looks down. She doesn’t know how to answer that when she doesn’t even understand the way it works. Mulder’s right, she is putting everything on the line with her idea. She could be wrong. But if she’s right, then the case is closed and Lance Woods and his family can put this to rest after two decades. And if she’s right, then this rape victim will have her closure too.

MONICA
My feelings tell me to trust this.

Mulder looks into her eyes. He’s not sure, but she seems so certain that her feelings are true. If they just go and talk to him, there is no harm in that, right? And who knows, if she’s right, then they get a killer behind bars.

Mulder nods his head.

Monica smiles, it’s nice to have someone listen to her when she has the sense... For most people it’s hard to understand, but with Mulder... well, he believes in everything.

TIME CUT TO:

INT. DOGGETT/SCULLY FBI OFFICE – EVENING

Scully sits down with a huge grin on her face and gently places her hands on her shiny new desk. She leans forward and adjusts her brand spankin’ new nameplate that sits at the front of her desk. She smiles. All of these years, and it took Mulder becoming the Assistant Director in Charge of XFD to get her own desk and nameplate. She leans back in her chair and observes the room. She likes seeing the office from this perspective.

In the other office, she hears Monica get up from her desk.

Scully leans forward to peer out the door into the office.

SCULLY
(excited)
Moni!

Monica comes over. Scully’s never called her that... She comes in with an amused expression.

MONICA
Yes?

SCULLY
(excited)
I have a desk!

MONICA
Congratulations.

SCULLY
Don’t I just look perfect behind it?

Monica laughs as how silly Scully is being.

MONICA
You look good.

SCULLY
I know. (beat) How’s the case?

MONICA
We arrested him. (beat) I got
him to confess to the murder and
to raping that woman.

SCULLY
Good. A person like that
shouldn’t hold any official
position. (beat) Do you know
how many years he’ll get in prison?

MONICA
Life maybe. It really all depends
on the judge who gets the trial. (beat)
But we’ve got a lot against him. He
tampered with evidence in both
of those cases...

SCULLY
Good job, Monica.

Monica smiles.

MONICA
Thank you.

Doggett enters the office.

DOGGETT
Dana, are we going to go yet?

SCULLY
Five more minutes, John.
I like my desk.

John smiles and grabs his coat to get ready to walk her out to her car.

MONICA
I need to go finish up. I’ll
see you guys tomorrow.

DOGGETT
All right. Good work
on that case, Monica.

MONCIA
Thanks.

She smiles and leaves the office.

DOGGETT
Okay Dana, it’s after five. I
want to get going.

Scully smiles and stands up.

SCULLY
All right, John. You win.

She goes to get her coat and turns one last time to look at her new desk and nameplate. She turns off the light and shuts the door behind her. She smiles at the door where her nameplate is above John’s.

SCULLY
It’s so shiny.

She locks the door and smiles at John.

DOGGETT
It’s about time.

SCULLY
Indeed it is.

She puts her arm around his waist as they walk out of the FBI together.

Off of this new change for the future, we...

FADE OUT:

THE END.
