Summary: Marita travels five years into the future, witnessing the horrible outcome of the alien colonization war. Communicating with the past is vital to save the future.

PREVIOUSLY ON “FOX & RAT”... Marita Covarrubias is believed to be dead, having been “killed” by Alex Krycek. Mysteriously, she is alive and in the future sending transmissions about what is happening to Captain William Scully, Sr. – who is alive and well, living and working in Antarctica, having faked his death to avoid being killed by people against him in The Syndicate. The selfish and cold-hearted Cigarette-Smoking Man has been traveling with Monica Reyes and are heading towards the East coast to meet up with the rest of the gang in Long Island, New York. While on this journey Cancer Man has betrayed Monica by handing her over to the colonizing aliens, but at the last minute he had a change of heart in his betrayal too her, and it was too late. The colonizing aliens have her held with other psychics at the Alien Headquarters (formerly the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.). Fox Mulder found his sister Samantha (and they both love to quote “Plan 9 From Outer Space”). They have been united with their other friends: Dana Scully, John Doggett, Walter Skinner, Knowle Rohrer, Shannon McMahon, and John Montgomery. Mysteriously a plane crashed in the Atlantic, the same plane that was brought down years ago in a case Mulder and Scully investigated involving a young girl who carried a chip in the base of her neck – the same chip that Scully had in her neck that she had removed at the beginning of colonization to prevent the aliens from finding her. With Scully’s health on the line and the future at risk we now begin the second “Fox & Rat” movie... “Save The Future: Contact”...

FADE IN:

And now to explain a little something that we kept a secret from you in season 9... what really happened to Mulder, Krycek and Marita after they were taken by the alien colonists on Christmas Day 2006.

INT. DARK PARKING GARAGE – NIGHT

DECEMBER 26, 2006
THE PENTAGON

Dim lights flicker in the abandoned parking garage. Condensation rolls down the walls, dripping from the ceiling onto the wet concrete. The air is warm and thick. Marita Covarrubias stands, dry blood on the side of her face, having come from her ear. Alex Krycek stands before her, gun drawn, aiming it at her. Blood drips down the side of his face as well. He’s on edge, paranoid.

MARITA
This isn’t what it seems to be. This isn’t
an escape, this is them turning you
against us. (beat) They’re making you do this.

KRYCEK
(paranoid)
Yeah?! And how would you know that unless
you were working with them! You are them!

Marita shakes her head and takes a cautious step towards him. She can see it in his eyes, he has so much fear, paranoia, even confusion. She believes he can break this cycle of mind warfare and he can come to his senses.

MARITA
Alex, this isn’t you. You’re stronger
than them. (beat) I believe in you.

Krycek squeezes the trigger, but no sound is heard. Yet, Marita falls to the ground, unable to control herself. Krycek comes over to her, looks down at her, blinks his eyes and looks terrified at what he thinks he just did.

He quickly kneels down next to her.

KRYCEK
Marita?

Tears well in his eyes.

Marita looks up at him, confused. Why is he crying? Why can’t she move?

MARITA
Sasha, I hear you. I’m here.

KRYCEK
(he doesn’t hear her)
Marita... no...

He cries, holding in his arms what he believes to be Marita’s lifeless body.

KRYCEK
(crying)
Marita...

Her holds her, brings her face up to his.

MARITA
Sasha... I’m here.

A tear drips from his face onto hers. A loud humming noise echoes through out the empty parking garage. Krycek looks up from Marita, remembering the last time he heard this noise. The humming becomes louder and louder, piercing his ears until he finally loses control of himself and falls over, laying unconscious on the ground with Marita in his arms.

Marita is unaffected by the loud noise.

MARITA
Sasha? Answer me.

She’s confused and catches a glimpse of an alien entering the parking garage. It stands tall, but she feels no fear from it.

From behind the alien, a blinding bright white light shines, whiting out Marita’s vision.

OVER WHITE:

Hollow wind. Cold. Whistling through bare branches.

Still. Quiet. Sound is muffled by several feet of snow.

FADE UP:

EXT. FOREST – DAY

Bare tree branches gently sway in the cold breeze. The world appears to be spinning slowly as snow gently falls to the frozen terrain. Marita Covarrubias lies on the ground, her body stripped of clothing. A snowflake gently falls on her eye and she twitches. Her eyes flutter open and she stares at the gray sky above, feeling disoriented.

She slowly sits up, crossing her arms in front of her, hoping to insulate as much body heat as she can. She looks around, trying to figure out what has happened. Where is she? How did she get here? The last she remembers is seeing Alex Krycek shoot a gun at her, but she didn’t die. She was taken and he was made to believe she died.

BOOM!

She quickly looks up upon hearing a loud blast from the sky. She is able to catch a glimpse of a small, light colored alien spacecraft leaving the area.

Then it dawns on her. She was abducted by aliens. But not the invading aliens, it couldn’t have been them. Perhaps by another alien race? She’ll never know.

Where is she? Earth? Not a minute ago she was on Earth, a planet now dying from heat. Now it is cold and the question she asks herself is when is she.

Snow has swallowed sound. No birds. No animals. She is alone and with nowhere to go.

Suddenly, loud tornado sirens wail in the distance, interrupting the still silence of the forest.

Marita turns in all directions, panicked. What the hell is going on? Has she been taken to the past, before the colonist invaded? In her panic, she spots a man in the distance. She’s about to call out to him, when she starts to hear the gradual humming she previously heard while she was held at the Alien Headquarters. The humming intensifies and she falls to the ground, covering her ears in pain. The humming is worse now than before. Blood trickles from her ears, dropping to the pale snow below. She screams in agony and drops to the ground, catching the attention of the man in the distance.

The man, unmistakably John Doggett, runs over to help her. He has black soot on his face to prevent snow blindness.

DOGGETT
(confused)
Marita?

He is unaffected by the intense humming because of earplugs. He takes off his jacket and wraps it around her frozen body. He picks her up and quickly carries her out of the area.

TIME CUT TO:

INT. LOG CABIN - DAY

Fox Mulder sits at a table, face to face with Alex Krycek. Between them is a wooden chessboard. Both men look deep in thought. Then Mulder, takes the Knight piece and moves it about the board as if he were playing checkers. Krycek’s eyes bug, knowing he’s just been cheated!

KRYCEK
Hey! That’s not a legal move!

MULDER
Says who?

KRYCEK
The guy who invented Chess. That
was more like a Checkers move!

MULDER
Yeah well, the guy who invented
Chess isn’t here, is he? So I say
the move was legal.

KRYCEK
(seeing where he’s coming from)
Dammit.

MULDER
Anyway... that move right there
just put you in checkmate.

Krycek looks at the board, then sighs.

KRYCEK
Damn you’re good at this game.

MULDER
I know.

He smiles and looks out the window, seeing John Doggett coming towards them with a limp body in his arms.

MULDER
John’s found a survivor.

Krycek looks up in shock.

KRYCEK
You’re kidding.

He rises from the table.

Mulder goes over to the door and opens it for John.

MULDER
(to Krycek)
Go get Alex.

KRYCEK
I am him.

MULDER
(duh, dummy)
The other one!

KRYCEK
(duh)
Oh!

Krycek hops out of his seat and heads out the door, just as John enters.

DOGGETT
It’s Marita.

He goes over to Mulder’s bed and lies her down.

MULDER
(confused)
Marita? (beat) Ohmygod! I can’t
believe Krycek didn’t notice you
were bringing her in! (beat) How
can this be her? Krycek said he-

Mulder comes over to his bed.

DOGGETT
I know, I know, but it’s her. (beat)
She was exposed to the noise, Mulder.

Doggett checks her over, lifting her eyelids.

DOGGETT
Where the hell is Alex?

MULDER
I sent him to get Alex.

DOGGETT
I meant, Alexandra.

MULDER
Oh, well Krycek is getting her.

The door opens and Krycek walks in, followed by a younger brunette woman (35), Alexandra McCord.

Doggett looks over at them.

DOGGETT
She was exposed to the noise.

ALEX McCORD
Where did you find her?

Doggett steps away from Marita, allowing Alexandra to check her over.

DOGGETT
In the clearing. About ten minutes away.

ALEX McCORD
Any idea who she is?

DOGGETT
I knew her. Her name is Marita Covarrubias.
She was killed about five years ago.

Krycek’s eyes BUG! He hadn’t realized this was Marita Covarrubias. His Marita Lynn... the light of his life, his Snuffles!

ALEX McCORD
Killed?

This concerns her. She looks over at Mulder and Krycek – especially Krycek.

ALEX McCORD
Krycek, don’t become a problem.

Krycek doesn’t move. If his Marita Lynn is in trouble, it is best to let the doctor check her over.

ALEX McCORD
We can’t be sure she’s who you
think she is. This woman is supposed
to be dead. (beat) We don’t need another incident.

KRYCEK
That was years ago, Alex. They
haven’t tried anything like that-

ALEX McCORD
(standing her ground)
-Doesn’t mean they won’t go back
to a system that worked for them before.

She looks at him sternly, knowing he wants to get close to Marita. She looks at all three men.

ALEX McCORD
(after a beat)
Before we do anything with her, we
must do the proper testing. We can’t
afford to risk not being careful. We’re
the only one’s alive - the one’s they are after.

MULDER
(frowning)
We’re not the only one’s. Super Buddies...

Alex looks at him, knowing he speaks of Monica Reyes and her unknown whereabouts. After all these years they still haven’t been able to find her, which leaves her a question mark in Mulder’s mind... and the way he has been about the unknown whereabouts of a Super Buddy reminds them all of his unending quest to find his sister, Samantha. And he found her, after many years. So telling Mulder that Monica is “gone”, is just unacceptable to him.

ALEX McCORD
Fox-

MULDER
(fed up)
-My parents! My parents, Alex! Even my parents!

ALEX McCORD
(rolls eyes)
Mulder, I’m not going to have this
argument again. You know it’s far too
dangerous to go searching for her.

MULDER
And we live in the fear that they are
using her to find us. All of that would go
away if we just found her. Besides, Super
Buddies don’t let other Super Buddies down.

ALEX McCORD
(stern)
No.

She looks at him sternly for a moment.

ALEX McCORD
We’ve all agreed on this, and I’m sorry
that it has to be that way, but we have no choice.

Mulder breaks eye contact with her and pouts. He doesn’t want to keep talking about this subject either because it is useless and it goes round and round in circles. He looks down at Marita.

MULDER
Well, then do the blood test on Marita.

He walks away from the group to the other side of the room to sit down at the table and pout. He watches as John gives Alex the blood test kit.

ALEX McCORD
John, what else can you tell me
about when you found this woman.

DOGGETT
Before the siren went off, I heard
a sonic boom. At least I think it was.
When I looked up I didn’t see anything,
shortly after that is when the sensors
were triggered. I noticed her as I was
securing my earplugs. By the time I got
to her, the noise was starting to take
affect on her.

ALEX McCORD
Well, she’s human all right. (beat)
No trace of any virus or other toxins.

Alex goes over to John and Krycek.

KRYCEK
How is this possible?

DOGGETT
I haven’t the faintest idea.

ALEX McCORD
Probably their mind warfare techniques.
They must’ve made Krycek believe he
had killed her.

MULDER (O.S.)
She’s coming to.

Everyone turns their attention to Marita.

ALEX McCORD
Step back, we don’t know how she’ll react.

Krycek takes a step away from Marita.

KRYCEK
How is it she’s survived this long
out there in the cold?

DOGGETT
Maybe there are other survivalists
we’ve been unable to contact.

ALEX McCORD
That’s impossible. We know that everyone
else is gone. We lost radio communication
years ago during the final attacks. Not even
survivors overseas survived those attacks.

DOGGETT
I like to think that if we could survive
then maybe there are others still out there.

ALEX McCORD
She had no clothes. (beat) Were there
tracks indicating where she came from?

Doggett shakes his head.

DOGGETT
I don’t think so. She was just lying
there in the snow.

ALEX McCORD
Any dusting on her?

DOGGETT
No.

ALEX McCORD
Are you saying it was as if she was
just dropped there?

MULDER (O.S.)
Sonic boom anyone?

They are silenced. The only time such sonic booms are heard are when the aliens are checking up on the progress of their hybrid race and do fly bys. The alien spacecrafts are the only machinery now that create that kind of sound and energy.

Mulder leaves the table and joins their conversation.

ALEX McCORD
Maybe she was abducted when Krycek thought
he killed her and they returned her.

MULDER
Then can we trust her? Or have they advanced
their hybridization so she would seem genetically,
one-hundred percent, human but in actuality she’s a hybrid?

KRYCEK
We’re missing the point that she was abducted.
(beat) Why, if the colonists already had her, would
they need to abduct her away from their headquarters?

ALEX McCORD
You’re saying she was abducted by another alien race?

KRYCEK
Yes.

DOGGETT
Then why drop her off here?

KRYCEK
You got me. Maybe she knows. Mulder
said once that alien abductees would
be told messages to send to the world, or
some kind of hocus-pocus like that.

MULDER
It’s not hocus-pocus.

DOGGETT
Then we should wait for her to wake up.
Hopefully she’ll remember what happened
to her and can answer our questions.

ALEX McCORD
We’ll have to wait for her paranoia to
settle down before we can speak rationally to her.

KRYCEK
Unless the aliens that took her made her
immune to the noise.

They all look at him doubtful and he shrugs his shoulders.

MARITA
(shaky voice)
What do you want with me?

They look down at her. She looks at them with distrust.

DOGGETT
Marita?

MARITA
Just stay the hell away from me? Who are you?

DOGGETT
It’s John Doggett, don’t you remember me?

MARITA
It’s another one of your tricks. You’ve
done this to me before. To me, and Alex and Mulder.
You just can’t show them to me and expect me to
believe you are human. (beat) Let me go, you have
no idea how important I am. I’m the daughter
of one of the most important Syndicate-

Alex cocks an eyebrow.

ALEX McCORD
Is she delusional?

KRYCEK
No, her father was a part of this
secret group of men who knew about
the alien’s colonization plans. She
and I were part of that group.

Alex turns her attention back to Marita.

DOGGETT
Marita, you can trust us. You’re safe.

MARITA
Stay the hell away from me!

ALEX McCORD
Her brain needs more rest. This
is too much for her right now.
John, help me hold her down.

Alex and John hesitantly goes over to her, somewhat afraid of any possible rash behavior. John holds her down by the shoulders and she lets out one hell of a scream.

Krycek steps forward, worried.

KRYCEK
(worried for his love)
Is she all right?

Alex tilts her head and administers eardrops to both ears, then injects her with a sedative.

ALEX McCORD
That should allow her mind to rest and
restore her balance for when she wakes up.

DOGGETT
We should get her something warm
to wear and something warm
to eat when she wakes up.

Alex nods her head and looks down at Marita.

ALEX McCORD
Ok, so who wants to give up their long johns?

MULDER
(cracking a “joke”)
Well, John’s name is in there.

ALEX McCORD
Come on guys, I’m serious.

Krycek has already started to strip down to his long johns.

DOGGETT
I will. I’ve got another pair anyway.

KRYCEK
NO! I’ll give her everything
I have, she’s my one true love.

MULDER
You have two pairs?

DOGGETT
She made me another pair... the luxury of
being involved with the woman in charge.

Doggett smirks at Mulder. He winks at Alex. Alex rolls her eyes and grabs his arm and drags him away.

MULDER
What about us?!

Krycek could care less if he froze tonight, so long as his Marita Lynn is safe and warm.

Doggett and Alex walk to their corner of the cabin. Alex kneels down on a mattress as John starts digging through his rucksack to find his other pair of long johns.

ALEX McCORD
I don’t think it’s very nice to
rub in the fact that you and I are involved.
I mean look at Mulder, the man misses Monica-

DOGGETT
(setting her straight)
-He never loved Monica in a romantic way.
He loved her in a Super Buddy way. There’s
a HUGE difference. Super Buddy love never dies.

ALEX McCORD
Whatever... Then there’s Krycek, and well,
he’s probably going to be better now that he
has the woman he loves...

DOGGETT
It’s not like the opportunity for
intimacy presents itself often. We don’t
get much more than they do with their own right hands.

ALEX McCORD
(not amused)
John.

DOGGETT
It’s true.

ALEX McCORD
I still feel guilty about having
someone when they, well, Mulder doesn’t.

DOGGETT
We could always try to save Monica. Maybe
if she were here, he could be with her...

ALEX McCORD
It’s way too dangerous, in our numbers,
to go into enemy territory. We’d be killed.
Hell, we don’t know for certain that she’s still alive.

DOGGETT
For as long as we don’t know for certain
he’ll never tire of trying to convince us
to go in there, with our Super Buddy faces
on, to try to save her.

ALEX McCORD
Well, he’s not in charge. (beat) I am.
He gave up his chance to lead us when he
almost got himself killed, trying to
convince the aliens to join Super Buddies.
Which forced us to leave our old stomping grounds.

DOGGETT
He didn’t do that intentionally.

ALEX McCORD
Yes he did!

Doggett gives in, it’s almost impossible to defend Mulder on some of the dumb things he has done to “try and save the world”.

ALEX McCORD
He almost cost us our lives, just
like Knowle Rohrer did when he lead
the aliens from New York before he
was killed in that big battle that
killed everyone else.

Alex looks Doggett in the eyes, with a strength in her soul that Doggett once saw in Scully, before her cancer began to consume her life, before she was shot and killed in the final battle on May 24, 2007.

He lowers his eyes, unable to match her gaze, remembering back to the guilt that he felt after Dana died in his arms. To this day he hates himself for not protecting her more during that battle. She could have lived a little longer if he had prevented her from being shot and killed. Back then Mulder, like Knowle would have done too, tried to convince him that it was better for Dana to die the way she did, it allowed her to die before more pain and suffering could consume her body because of her cancer.

Alex sighs.

ALEX McCORD
There’s that look again.

DOGGETT
And we’ve discussed it before
and I don’t want to discuss it again.

Talking about what happened to Dana still hurts, he’s been successful in keeping his emotions bottled up inside himself all these years, very rarely talking about her death to anyone.

CUT TO:

INT. ALIEN HEADQUARTERS – CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN’S CHAMBERS

Cancer Man stands in front of a window, peering out at the frozen world, enjoying the lasting heat of his indoor chambers. From his pocket he retrieves a pack of Morley’s. Yes, even in a world without luxuries this son of a bitch still manages to feed his disgusting habit. He strikes a match from his matchbook and lights his cigarette, enjoying one of life’s luxuries he’s allowed to experience.

His chamber is very human. Filled with luxuries from a world now gone forever. Wooden bookshelves filled with books, fireplace, desk, bed. Everything a man of power could ever want.

There is a quiet knock on his door.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
Come in.

The door quietly opens as Monica Reyes enters. She’s dressed casually in a black sweater and jeans. Behind her, the halls of the Alien Headquarters are very dark and dreary.

Monica smiles at the Cancer Man. He turns to face her.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
Monica, how are you?

He takes a drag off his cancer stick.

MONICA
I’m feeling very well, Charles.

She looks at him, her eyes appearing very human, yet with a sly hint of deception.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
That is wonderful to hear.

MONICA
They told me that they are finally
finished with me. That I am complete.

Cancer Man lifts his cigarette to his mouth again, he’s on guard not fully trusting her.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
They told me once your transition was complete
that that would be it. There would be no stopping
the rise of any human forces.

MONICA
Yes. They are right.

Cancer Man smiles.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
(smug, yet remaining cautious)
Good.

MONICA
They tell me they must all be destroyed.
There must be no chance for the humans
to rise again.

Cancer Man eyes her.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
And our deal-

MONICA
Your deal is not forgotten, Charles.

She smiles sweetly at him.

MONICA
In fact, our former leader made sure
to remind me of it before sacrificing
his full power over to me.

Cancer Man takes another long drag off his cigarette.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
You have full power now?

MONICA
Of course I do.

She eyes him with deceit and sits on his couch.

MONICA
After all, I am the one.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
Yes, indeed you are.

MONICA
That’s partly why I came here.

She looks up at him.

MONICA
To speak with you directly about your
position here with us. (beat) Please,
have a seat next to me.

She signals to the seat right next to her on the couch. He looks at her with caution, approaches, and sits down next to her, betraying his own instinct.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
Go on.

MONICA
Our former leader spoke of an agreement
you made with us concerning Dana Scully,
a chip you promised, and the trade you
made for your loss of both those items.
That trade being... well, me.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
I held up my end of the deal to the
best of my ability.

MONICA
Yes, we understand that. (beat) However,
you fail to realize that I have the ability
to read your mind, know your every thought,
even know your plans to try to take over.

Blood drains from the Cancer Man.

MONICA (CON’T)
Earlier, I spoke of how we must make
certain the human forces never rise
again. (beat; sweetly) And well... that includes you.

She looks at him, making eye contact with him. The cigarette drops from his hand to the floor. Monica’s eyes appear black and lifeless, yet filled with alien life.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
You can’t destroy me.

MONICA
I certainly can, Charles. Who’s to
punish me? I am the one, their former
leader knew this to be true. It is the
sole reason he sacrificed his abilities
so I would survive and help this planet
thrive to a more... civilized world.

CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN
Monica, I... I saw to it that this
trade happened to save you.

Monica smiles at him.

MONICA
Do you really think you
are talking to Monica?

Monica is silent. Her words dawn on him, and then, without so much as a warning, she looks at him and his eyes start to bleed. She smiles as he starts to choke. She stands, watching him plead for air and life with his eyes. And while their eyes meet, her black, blank stare pierces into him, killing him. He falls to the ground and she smiles as she looks down at his lifeless body.

The door opens and another alien enters. They speak in their language to each other.

ALIEN MONICA
He is dead.

OTHER ALIEN
Good, and now the others...

Alien Monica smiles knowing that after she gets the others, the planet will be theirs.

CUT TO:

INT. CABIN – NIGHT

Mulder, Krycek, Doggett and Alex McCord sit at the small wooden table eating supper, a small lantern lights their meal. Krycek glances over at Marita. She is still sleeping on his bed.

KRYCEK
(talking softly to Alex)
How much did you give her?

ALEX McCORD
The usual dosage.

KRYCEK
Are you sure? She’s still out. She
should’ve woken up hours ago.

ALEX McCORD
I know what I’m doing.

KNOWLE
But she’s really petite.

ALEX McCORD
Alex, I know how much to give my patients.

KRYCEK
Do you ever get confused when you
talk to me and call me Alex?

She looks at him, wondering what dumb conversation this is leading to.

KRYCEK (CON’T)
I mean, do you ever think you are
talking to yourself?

ALEX McCORD
No. (beat; afraid to ask) Do you?

KRYCEK
Sometimes.

Mulder and Doggett exchange a look.

MULDER
Alex, I’m sorry for Sasha. He
knows not what he says.

Alex McCord, nods, understanding.

KRYCEK
(defensive)
I know what I’m saying.

MULDER
Oh really?

KRYCEK
Yeah.

MULDER
I doubt that.

KRYCEK
Yeah, well, I doubly doubt that
you know half the stuff you talk
about, so NAH!

Mulder looks at him blankly... did Krycek just say “so NAH!”?

MULDER
Sasha, I am so not having one
of our “yes-no fights”, ok?

KRYCEK
No.

MULDER
Yeah-huh.

KRYCEK
Nuh-uh.

MULDER
Yes.

KRYCEK
No.

MULDER
Yes.

KRYCEK
No.

Doggett and McCord share an irritated look... here they go again.

MULDER
Yes.

KRYCEK
No.

MULDER
Yes.

KRYCEK
I JUST DID! We had a “yes-no fight”!

MULDER
No we didn’t!

KRYCEK
Yes we did!

MULDER
Nuh-uh.

KRYCEK
Yeah we did, baby!

MULDER
No we didn’t!

KRYCEK
I da man!

Doggett stands up.

DOGGETT
SHUT UP!

Mulder and Krycek look up at him, his outburst startles them.

MULDER/KRYCEK
Geez John, get your knickers out of a knot.

They quietly, as if nothing happened, go back to eating their meal.

Doggett calmly sits back down.

DOGGETT
(changing the subject)
I wasn’t able to get any hunting done
today since I found Marita so I think
first thing tomorrow morning I’ll go
out and see what I can get.

John stands up, having finished his meal and is now going to prepare to go to bed. Alexandra follows. She goes to their corner and starts changing into her sleepwear.

MULDER
(off screen, sad)
You know buddy, do you think that
since Marita is alive and with us
now that maybe, just maybe, Kim
may be out there somewhere wondering
where I am and if I’m alive?

KRYCEK
(off screen)
I don’t know, but um, can
you go someplace else and leave
me and Marita alone right now?

MULDER
(off screen)
But... but she’s asleep.

Krycek gets up from the table.

KRYCEK
I know. We still need our quality time.

Alex McCord looks at John and rolls her eyes.

ALEX McCORD
(quiet)
It’s amazing how pathetic they can be.
I should go tell them to get over it.

DOGGETT
(casual)
That would be a big mistake.

ALEX McCORD
Why?

DOGGETT
Five years with them and still
you don’t know them?

He looks at her doubtfully.

DOGGETT (CON’T)
Telling Krycek to get over the
“light of his life” would turn him
into a drama queen maniac. (beat)
And telling Mulder to get over Kim,
or to even stop looking for Monica
his Super Buddy – would turn him
into Niagra Falls.

Alex looks back at the boys, as Krycek cuddles with Marita.

ALEX McCORD
Good point. But I still think we need
to be a little more alert than “oh goodie,
oh boy”, as they tend to get. (beat) We
can’t have them moping or getting out-of-control
giddy about things.

Doggett nods in agreement and Alex turns down the bed and looks at John.

ALEX McCORD
We’ve all lost someone John. I know what
it’s like to lose someone you love. I lost
James when the aliens started colonizing.

Alex lets out a soft sigh and glances over at Mulder as he slowly and pathetically finishes his meal.

DOGGETT
If I never found Dana, I probably
would be exactly like him. (beat)
Believe me, the unanswered questions
are the worst part of losing someone.

Doggett’s mind briefly reflects back on all the years he never knew who killed his son, Luke.

ALEX McCORD
But just think of what Mulder
is missing out on. He won’t let himself
love again.

DOGGETT
Who’s he supposed to love? Alex?

Doggett and Alexandra look over at Krycek who’s still cuddling with Marita. Doggett reflects on all the questionable moments Fox and Alex have shared together... kissing in Europe, Krycek kissing Mulder claiming to be gay to make Diana Fowley leave Mulder, their office flirtations, the hugging, the “things they don’t talk about”... He shakes his head... well, maybe if Marita weren’t here it would be possible for Mulder and Krycek to fall in love... but first Krycek would have to learn to love more than just himself...

ALEX McCORD
Well... no...

DOGGETT
You so didn’t know them in the past...

ALEX McCORD
You know what I mean. If there was
someone else here, he could have her.

MULDER
(off screen, crying)
And I would! I really miss Kim!
And I miss Sammy too! (beat) Oh God!
Why did Sammy have to die?!

He starts to bawl – loudly.

KRYCEK
Way to go Alex! Now you’ve
got him crying like a big baby!

MULDER
SHUT UP!

KRYCEK
(on to something else)
Dammit!

MULDER
(confused/not crying now)
What?

Krycek sits up from cuddling with Marita looks at John and Alex. He starts removing his blankets from his body and puts his boots on. He is annoyed with something.

KRYCEK
It’s Friday night.

MULDER
So?

KRYCEK
Remember our meeting the other
day? How we all agreed that it’s
time John and Alex try to reproduce.

MULDER
Do you ever get creeped out saying that?

KRYCEK
I do actually. It has to do with
my homophobic tendencies.

MULDER
Is that really going to happen
with Marita here?

KRYCEK
Duh dummy... we’ll have to carry
her outside into the cold with us.

MULDER
Oh yeah. Duh. I can be such
a silly dum-dum sometimes.

The boys start to get bundled up to go sit outside so John and Alex and do the dirty deed.

John and Alex watch on.

ALEX McCORD
Boys... John and I will tell you
bozos when we want to do... that, and
when that time comes then you can leave.

KRYCEK
Suit yourself. Though I don’t know any man
who would turn down gettin’ it on with
the likes of a pretty thang like you, yo.

Seems Krycek has already forgotten that he has been cuddling with his “one true love”... his “love of his life”... his “reason for being”... his Marita Lynn.

Krycek kicks off his boots and lies down again. Alex stands up, hands on her hips. John rolls his eyes and lies down on his and Alex’s mattress.

DOGGETT
Here we go again.

MULDER
You are so in the dog house, Sasha.

KRYCEK
What? What’d I say? I da man.

ALEX McCORD
Thing? You called me a “thing”? Is
that the way you always talked to women?

KRYCEK
What? What are you talking about?

She looks at him, wondering why it is taking so long for an apology.

MULDER
She’s waiting for an apology, man.
(beat) I mean, you were married once... Right?

KRYCEK
Yeah. Me and Marita were “married by the heart”.

MULDER
And didn’t you ever have to apologize
for dumb boy things that you did?

Krycek thinks hard about this one.

ALEX McCORD
Don’t hurt yourself, Alex.

Krycek gives her a little glare.

KRYCEK
I’m sorry I called you a “thang”.

ALEX McCORD
Apology accepted. I guess even after
all these years with you, I still have
some getting used to when it comes to you boys.

MULDER
Please don’t pluralize “boys” when it
comes to the dumb things he does on his own.

ALEX McCORD
Sorry Fox- Mulder.

TIME CUT – LATER THAT NIGHT

Outside, up against the wooden side of the cabin are John and Alex, going at it, in three feet of snow. The wind is cold so all their clothes are still on. They’re trying to be quiet, but without success. There’s no passion or true love here, their attempt at reproducing is very technical. They try to communicate with each other in order to get this act of reproduction over as quickly as possible. Yes, they are involved and are a couple, but not in the way that we’ve previously seen between John and Dana.

Inside Mulder lies awake, hearing John and Alex. He glances over at Krycek, he’s also awake. They share a look and Krycek wiggles his eyebrows and gives Mulder a thumbs-up. Mulder grabs his earplugs.

MULDER
You wake me if we are attacked.

Krycek nods his head and watches as Mulder plugs out the sound of John and Alex outside. Mulder lies down and turns his back to Krycek. Krycek looks around him and picks up his earplugs and puts them in his ears. He’d rather spend his “quiet time” with Marita. He lies down and turns his back to Mulder and snuggles with Marita. If they were to be attacked 1) Marita may not wake up. 2) John and Alex are busy sexing each other up outside to be prepared and 3) Mulder and Krycek would have no clue and they would all die.

Suddenly Marita’s eyes flutter open and she sits up next to Krycek, curious as to who she hears having sex, and where she is. She hasn’t noticed that she is being cuddle by Krycek. Her mind is on the aliens that had mentioned something to her about a breeding camp where women would be taken, where she would be taken. She quietly gets up, grabs a machete from John and Alex’s side of the room and quietly tip-toes to the door of the cabin. She opens it cautiously and steps outside into the freezing cold weather.

She presses her back up against the wall of the cabin, machete ready to swing out and hurt anyone who may grab her. She peers around the corner and sees John and Alex. Her eyes bug in fear that she may be next to be...

ALEX McCORD
(doing “that”)
I’m almost there, Johnny, hurry up.

DOGGETT
(doing “that”)
Call me John. (beat) Me too.

ALEX McCORD
(doing her best to sound into “it”)
Oh God! Oooh!

DOGGETT
Shh, Alex. We don’t want to wake them.

ALEX McCORD
Sorry.

DOGGETT
Don’t be sorry, just finish.

ALEX McCORD
Let’s not argue.

DOGGETT
I’m not arguing.

Marita’s brow wrinkles in confusion. That’s John Doggett, Dana’s John. What the hell is he doing with some girl named Alex?

MARITA
(utterly confused)
Why isn’t this the strangest
way and place to umm... make love?

Doggett practically hops away from Alex and zips up his pants.

DOGGETT
Marita! You’re awake!

MARITA
What about Dana?

She looks at Doggett with complete disapproval of his actions with this other woman here tonight.

DOGGETT
Maybe we should go inside and talk.

MARITA
Are you sure you want to? Or do you
want to keep cheating on Dana?

DOGGETT
I’m not cheating on anyone-

MARITA
(her voice sqeaks)
-Then what the hell is this?!

DOGGETT
Like I said, I think we should
all go inside and talk.

Doggett reaches out to her.

DOGGETT
Can you give me the machete?

Marita looks at the machete, then at Doggett. She narrows her eyes at him.

ALEX McCORD
John, she may still be paranoid.

DOGGETT
(under breath, not moving lips)
I know. That’s why I’m trying
to get the machete from her.

ALEX McCORD
Got it.

Doggett takes a step towards Marita.

MARITA
How do I know I can trust you? The
John Doggett I knew would never be
unfaithful to Dana.

DOGGETT
(careful)
Marita... it’s me, the John Doggett
you know. Dana passed away. (beat)
Now can you give me the machete, and
we can go inside and talk, ok?

Marita holds tightly onto the machete for a moment, looking at John to see if he’s sincere. After a moment she relaxes and hands it over to him. They all go inside.

INT. CABIN – CON’T

Mulder and Krycek are fast asleep. Alex rolls her eyes, not surprised. Doggett lights the lantern and sets it on the table. He pulls out a chair for Marita and she sits. John and Alex sit across from her.

MARITA
Ok. So what’s going on?

DOGGETT
How about we start with you. (beat) What’s
that last thing you remember?

MARITA
Well... I was being held at the Alien’s headquarters,
formerly the Pentagon, with Alex and Mulder. They were
asking me questions, doing some sort of sound test on
us. Alex thought he killed me, then keeled over. There
was a bright light and I woke up in the snow. Which is
when I heard a tornado siren, then the loud humming that
I last heard at the Pentagon, only worse, and I fell over.

DOGGETT
Ok.

MARITA
Where are we? Why is it cold?
How did Dana die? And who the hell is she?

Marita glares at Alex, disapproving of her.

DOGGETT
We’re in Virginia. (beat) The climate became
cold during the last battle at Long Island
about five years ago. We’re not entirely sure
why this happened, but Krycek believes it had
something to do with an artifact that a man
named Comer had. He believes it was connected
with another artifact just like it, and then
suddenly temperatures dropped and the world
became as it is now.

Alex McCord stands and retrieves the artifact from a shelf and sets it on the table. Marita looks at it.

ALEX McCORD
We’ve always wondered if things would
have been different had the cold come
on or before the final battle.

MARITA
Why’s that?

DOGGETT
The colonist aliens are weak in
cold temperatures. Before the world
froze they were nearly unstoppable, but
after, they were much easier to kill.

MARITA
That makes sense. My father’s group
did research and discovered that
when a human was infected with the alien
virus that the gestation period was prolonged
in freezing temperatures. Heat, like we
had before and during colonization, sped it
up, strengthened the aliens.

DOGGETT
If we had been able to freeze the world
sooner with this artifact, then maybe,
just maybe more people would have survived.

MARITA
How many people are left?

ALEX McCORD
Since the May 24th attacks we haven’t
had contact with any other groups
of survivors. Far as we can tell, we’re
the only ones left.

MARITA
And how is it that you’ve managed to
survive this long? Why don’t the aliens
try to find you? Kill you?

DOGGETT
The original colonists left the planet
as the freeze happened.

ALEX McCORD
We don’t consider the colonists a
threat anymore. They only do fly-bys
to check up on the hybrids they left behind.

MARITA
Hybrids... from the breeding camps?

DOGGETT
Yes.

ALEX McCORD
There are two threats on the planet now.
The main threat from the Breeders, men
gone savage as a result of what the aliens
injected them with when they were taken
to the breeding camps.

DOGGETT
Then there are the hybrids. Though they
are part alien, they’ve been created to
be able to withstand the cold much like
us humans are capable of doing. They are
strong like the colonists, but are not
weakened by the cold.

Marita nods her head. She can understand that. Hybrids are part alien and part human. Hybrids will have the strengths of both their parts, human and alien.

DOGGETT
(after a beat)
Dana was dying of cancer, but that
wasn’t what killed her. (beat) During
the final battle in 2007, she was shot
and killed. She died in my arms.

MARITA
See, that’s where you loose me. You keep
saying that all of this happened years ago.
(beat) So I guess I need to know, when am I?

DOGGETT
It’s March 18th in the year 2012.

Marita’s eyes widen.

DOGGETT
And this is Alexandra McCord. She was
part of a group lead by a man named Ray
Douglas. Everyone from that group was
killed when they were attacked by aliens.

MARITA
And what about Skinner? Or Monica? All the others?

ALEX McCORD
They died too. In the final
battle of the War.

DOGGETT
Monica is assumed dead, but we never found her.

MARITA
We lost the war, didn’t we?

Doggett slowly nods his head in affirmation.

DOGGETT
We’re just trying to survive now.

MARITA
What about overseas?

DOGGETT
Hard to tell. Communications were destroyed.
Honestly, there’s an unlikely chance there are
many survivors at all, even world wide.

Marita’s eyes have filled with tears.

MARITA
Why is this happening? Why have I been
brought here? Surely there must’ve been
something we could’ve done to stop them?
I just... I can’t hear this. I can’t-

She’s cut off by the sound of the tornado siren blaring, much louder this time, obviously closer to their cabin than in the clearing where Doggett found Marita. Marita looks around confused.

MARITA
(freaking out)
And what the hell is that?!

Alex rises quickly and finds their earplugs. Checks to make sure Mulder and Krycek are secure. She comes back to the table.

Doggett places the earplugs in his ears, and Alex does to herself. Doggett looks at Marita, no more earplugs are in their possession.

DOGGETT
Trust me, you don’t want to hear what’s coming.

Without another word, he plugs his fingers into Marita’s ears. She doesn’t move, wondering how long this will last.

Five minutes later, Alex removes her earplugs. Doggett watches her, as does Marita. She nods her head at John, and he removes his fingers from Marita’s ears, then removes his earplugs.

MARITA
And that was?

ALEX McCORD
Another one of their methods of warfare.
It’s a sound barrier that carries with it
the ability to drive us to the point of murderous
paranoia. To turn us against each other and
kill one another.

MARITA
Like their mind warfare?

DOGGETT
Something like that.

MARITA
And the tornado siren that comes before it?

ALEX McCORD
Something John rigged up as a method of
protection. It has a sensitive sensor
that at the first sign of that intense humming it will
go off, alerting us to that noise. (beat)
We’d be dead if it weren’t for that siren.

MARITA
The humming, I heard that out in the clearing.
I heard it back before I came here, when I was
with Krycek and Mulder at the Pentagon.

ALEX McCORD
They were probably testing it on you.

MARITA
So they’ve mastered it?

DOGGETT
Apparently.

MARITA
They want us to kill each other
so they don’t have to. (beat)
How did we lose the war?

DOGGETT
They were stronger warriors. Had
the advantage too - a chip that carried
information on how to defeat us.

MARITA
What do you mean a chip?

DOGGETT
Mulder said that it was a chip that was in
a little girl that was in a plane crash from
years ago. That the plane time traveled to our time
so the aliens could get the chip rather than
the Syndicate. It was a case he and Dana worked
back in 2000. We figured once they realized the
chip that was in Dana’s neck was destroyed they
had to be a little drastic and do what they did.

MARITA
Time travel, huh?

ALEX McCORD
Kind of like missing five years, right?

MARITA
So the aliens got this chip, and that’s
what did us in?

She looks at them confused. How could one chip be so important to the whole scheme of things.

DOGGETT
We never saw what was on the chip, but
assume that it had information about
Knowle Rohrer. (beat) During the final
battle, the aliens focused a lot of their
attention on taking him out. (beat) We assume
that this chip had our plans through some
sort of psychic technology.

Marita can’t help but be baffled by John Doggett talking about such science fiction.

MARITA
Do you know that what you’re saying is insane?

DOGGETT
I know it sounds that way. Believe
me, I know. I’m just telling the facts.

They sit in silence for a moment.

MARITA
Have you ever listened to Bach?

DOGGETT
Bach?

MARITA
Mulder loves Bach. Especially the
Brandenburg concierto, number two.

Doggett and Alex listen, wondering where she’s going with this random comment.

MARITA
It was sent into outer space in the hopes
of one day reaching other life. They would
hear this music and think Earth was a wonderful
place. (beat) That sound, that message, travels
endlessly, across the airwaves, lasting through
out an infinite amount of time. Traveling with time.

DOGGETT
(not sure what she’s getting at)
Yeah, it probably will.

MARITA
What if I was brought here for a reason.
What if I am supposed to carry a message through time?

Alex and John listen.

MARITA
When I was in that parking garage, I
saw an alien. But I didn’t feel threatened.
I didn’t have fear. In fact, I felt at peace.
Then the bright light... I have no memory of
what happened to me after that. (beat) What
if, somehow, I’m supposed to stop all that has
happened here? All that has happened to this planet?

She looks at them, they are unsure what to say.

MARITA
I remember seeing an alien craft. Light in
color. I remember seeing it in the clearing.

DOGGETT
Light in color?

ALEX McCORD
(to John)
Couldn’t have been one of their fly-bys.

DOGGETT
No, it couldn’t. They have dark colored crafts.

MARITA
So maybe I was abducted by aliens who
want to help us.

DOGGETT
Samantha told us that she was abducted by
aliens that wanted to help her. That she didn’t
want to remove the implants because they were good.

MARITA
Samantha?

Doggett looks at her, realizing that she doesn’t know Mulder found his sister.

DOGGETT
Mulder’s sister. He found her.

MARITA
(Mulder was right??!)
So she really was abducted by aliens.

DOGGETT
Yes. By aliens who helped her. When the
Colonist initially attacked, they used bees
that carried a virus. She was stung, and while
she watched her neighbors gestate alien foot
soldiers, she was fine. Never infected. The Colonists
weren’t able to track her through her implants.

Marita takes this all in.

MARITA
Does anyone know how to do regression hypnosis?

ALEX McCORD
What?

MARITA
I want to know what happened to me. If
I’m supposed to do something here, I want
to know. I just can’t sit here, hearing all
of this and accept that I’ve missed five years
of my life. I just can’t do it. There has to
be a reason for me coming here. There has to
be some way that we can still save the planet.

ALEX McCORD
Like create a time machine and
send you back five years?

MARITA
Maybe. (beat) If that were possible
we’d have to know what went wrong and
how to fix it.

DOGGETT
This isn’t a Hollywood script. Man-made
time travel is impossible.

ALEX McCORD
What if we got our hands on one of
their spacecrafts and figured it out?
Alex has claimed he knows how to fly a UFO.

Doggett rolls his eyes. This is getting ridiculous.

DOGGETT
We’d have to shoot one down out
of the sky on one of their rare fly bys.
Then we’d have to repair the damages
we caused and then we’d have to know how
to not only use it but how to fly it as well.
It’s impossible.

MARITA
Then perhaps we need to figure out what
we can do to communicate with the past.

DOGGETT
I’m sorry, what? (long beat) Impossible!

ALEX McCORD
No. She may be onto something here.

DOGGETT
(not her too)
What?

ALEX McCORD
Radio waves. The Brandenburg concierto.
Radio waves can’t be stopped unless
intercepted. What if we were able to harness
the path of a radio wave created in our past
and somehow make our broadcast travel back in time.

DOGGETT
Impossible.

MULDER
(waking up)
Not quite. Get a really clear night.
Could work. I mean, we were able to
get a system rigged up for the sound.
Why not give this a try?

DOGGETT
Yeah, but how?

Mulder gets up and goes over to their table.

MULDER
Intercept the signal that Brandenburg
concierto is on and try to reverse it
and hope someone with a big enough sat
is around to hear it. (beat) Honestly,
what have we to lose? I know it sounds
impossible, but pull a wire here, replace
one there, re-route that, and poof! Could
be done. (beat) Besides, I have Mulder Luck.

DOGGETT
Ok. Say this is actually possible. Where in
the world are we going to get a satellite
big enough to do that? How are we going to
intercept that signal?

MARITA
The Pentagon would have the means.

Doggett looks at her with doubt.

DOGGETT
Not to burst your bubble, but the Pentagon
is located at the heart of enemy territory.

ALEX McCORD
It’s where their headquarters are.

Marita smiles.

MARITA
I know. I was there.

DOGGETT
Five years ago you were there. I’m sure
they’ve done enough remodeling to
change everything you saw.

MARITA
(smiles)
My point exactly.

Not the response Doggett was expecting. Mulder smiles slyly.

MULDER
They’d now be able to intercept that
airwave. They’d have the means to do
what we need to do.

MARITA
Precisely.

DOGGETT
Too risky! We can’t afford to waltz
in there and act like we own the place.

MULDER
Duh, dum-dum. We’ll have to go
in secretly. Krycek and I’ve done it
tons of times.

Everyone looks at him with doubt.

MULDER
BEFORE the aliens colonized. Krycek had
this thing about stalking Knowle...

ALEX McCORD
Ok... but you did this to humans, not
mind reading aliens. And that was years
ago. I’m sure you’re out of practice.

MARITA
Any truth to the theory of aluminum foil hats?

DOGGETT
Mulder claimes to it.

He rolls his eyes.

MARITA
I’ll take my chances.

ALEX McCORD
We don’t have any aluminum foil.

MARITA
Well, I don’t know then. But we
have to do something. I should go
in alone. No need to risk anymore lives.

MULDER
No. Out of the question. I’m not going
to lose another Super Buddy! (beat)
And I know this world better than you.

MARITA
I’m smaller.

MULDER
I have Mulder Luck.

ALEX McCORD
No point in arguing this now. We can’t
even think up a way to get in there safely.
Until then, it’s out of the question. (beat)
And Mulder... Mulder Luck or not, you’re not going.

She gives him a stern look, knowing all too well that he’ll believe whole heartedly in Mulder Luck to just walk in there and try to get the aliens to join Super Buddies.

MULDER
(ignoring her stern look)
Actually, you know aluminum isn’t as effective
as silver, gold or even platinum.

ALEX McCORD
Are you still on the foil hats?

Mulder shrugs and smiles.

ALEX McCORD
(rolling eyes)
And where are we going to find
any of that, genius?

MULDER
Maybe the gas station down that
snowy, icy road. That’s where we
got all of our canned food. Who’s
to say they don’t have-

DOGGETT
(beyond irritation)
-S-so what? We’re gonna just... just
go there and buy Plutonium and build
a time machine out of a frickin’ DeLorean?
Hell, why don’t we make it fly?

MULDER
Great Scott! Doc, you’re spazzing out on us.

ALEX McCORD
This is heavy.

She slaps her palm of her hand to her forehead and rests her head.

DOGGETT
I’m serious! Do you know how
insane you are sounding?

MULDER
Hey, I’m not the one who’s talking
about building a time machine out
of a DeLorean and making it fly.

DOGGETT
Foil hats!

MULDER
I was just saying that I don’t think
we should abandon Marita’s idea of going
in there and using their equipment. (beat)
Yeah, it’s dangerous but I have Mulder Luck.
This is our planet and we’re just sitting here
accepting defeat. Remember, love and friendship conquers all.

Krycek sits up from his bed. He looks over at the table with a scowl on his face.

KRYCEK
HEY!

They all turn to look at him, maybe he has something to add to this conversation. Maybe he sees that his one true love is awake.

KRYCEK
(after a short beat)
I’m trying to get my beauty sleep.
Could you shut your traps!? Geez!

He pulls a sleeping eye mask out from one of his pockets and puts it over his eyes, puts the ear plugs back in his ears and falls back onto his pillow, pulling the blankets over his head to continue with his “beauty sleep”.

Marita turns to the others.

MARITA
Well, some things never change.

MULDER
Yeah, he’s still a drama queen.

ALEX McCORD
You know, he has a point. (beat)
We should all get some sleep.

She looks at Doggett, seeing that he’s calming down from the “flying DeLorean” incident.

MULDER
Marita. Um. Well, since Alexander is
in my bed, you can have his and I’ll
stay on guard duty tonight. You know
so you can have your own place to sleep
without having to worry about any...
“I’m a man” incidents like that one time
on that road trip to Colorado.

MARITA
Thanks Mulder.

She smiles at him. He blushes a bit.

MARITA
It’s a wonder we never hooked up.

She kisses him on the cheek.

MULDER
Well, you know... Rule #1.

He smiles at her.

MULDER
Well, I’m outie!

He goes over to the door and grabs his coat to go out on guard duty for the night.

TIME CUT TO:

EXT. CABIN – NIGHT

Mulder stands guard outside the cabin, his weapon leaning against it. He is cold and is rubbing his hands up and down his arms to create warmth through friction.

MULDER
(to himself)
Golly is it cold out here. Gotta
move. Gotta do something.

He leaves his post up against the wall and starts to pace around an empty spot in front of the cabin.

MULDER
(singing)
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son

He starts to do the Moon Walk in the snow, followed by a couple more Jackson moves. He finishes and smiles to himself.

MULDER
(quiet excitement)
Hee! I still got it.

He scans the area around him. He stops upon hearing a twig snap. It could be any of the following things, 1) a lost animal suitable for their next meal – he better get John if it is; 2) a hybrid out to kill them; or 3) one of the breeders coming to feast on or rape them. He prepares for either of the last two options.

Mulder goes over to his weapon and grabs onto it. What he should probably do is get John, but no... he doesn’t.

MULDER
(a little scared)
Hello?

MONICA (O.S.)
(weak)
Mulder?

Mulder looks in the direction of her voice. His jaw drops wide. He can’t believe his Super Buddy is still alive!

MULDER
(giddy)
Eep! Ohmygosh! Monica!!

He rushes over to her and hugs her. His weapon drops to the ground. He hasn’t noticed that Monica is hunched over as if she were in pain. Her sweater has been ripped and she is shivering.

MONICA
(weak)
Mulder? Is it really you?

MULDER
Of course it’s me! Ohmygosh! This is
just so super exciting! You’re alive!

MONICA
(weak)
I’m so cold...

MULDER
Well, we’ll get you inside and
have some nice warm hot coco!

He notices that she is in pain.

MULDER
(a little more serious)
Oh gawd... are you hurt? Are you ok?

MONICA
I don’t know. I escaped them. They
were after me, but I lost them.

Mulder wraps his arms around her and leads her into the cabin.

MULDER
You’re frozen like a Popsicle!

MONICA
I’m scared Mulder. They were doing
terrible, terrible things to me.

She starts to cry.

MULDER
Oh no no no, don’t cry!

Mulder starts to cry as they enter the cabin.

INT. CABIN – CON’T

Mulder comes in bawling. Monica looks at him, wondering if he’s all right. The door shuts with a slam, waking John and Alex.

ALEX McCORD
(annoyed)
Mulder, what is it now?

MULDER
(no longer bawling)
It’s Monica! I told you she
was alive! You can’t keep a
Super Buddy down!

John is up in a heartbeat. Mulder leads Monica over to a chair at the table and helps her sit down, pushing in her chair

MULDER
She needs some hot coco.

Alex stands back, watching. She’s a little unsure and knows that Mulder can be blinded by the “power” of Super Buddies.

ALEX McCORD
Where was she?

MULDER
Out in the forest! I had just finished
doing the Moon Walk and...

ALEX McCORD
(suspicious)
Mm-huh.

MONICA
They held me prisoner.

ALEX McCORD
For how long?

MONICA
I have no idea. I lost track of
time. They were terrible...

She wipes tears from her face.

MONICA
They killed so many people and
I don’t know why.

ALEX McCORD
(to Mulder)
What are the chances she’s been followed?

MULDER
As I said before: You can’t keep
a Super Buddy down. She wasn’t followed.

ALEX McCORD
(doubtful)
Right.

Marita sits up in bed, watching the situation. Doggett goes over and shakes Krycek awake, whispering to him that Monica is here. He gets up and smiles, not realizing how terrible his bed head is. His vanity would suffer immensely.

ALEX McCORD
(to Doggett)
She could’ve led them to us.

KRYCEK
Hey there hot stuff. My hot tamale!

ALEX McCORD
Good God John! Did you have to wake him up?

She looks at John sternly.

DOGGETT
Sorry. I didn’t know-

No use in continuing. It was stupid to wake him up.

ALEX McCORD
Mulder! A word?

MULDER
I’ll be right there!

Mulder gives Monica a mug of hot coco and walks over to Alex across the room.

ALEX McCORD
I know you want to believe it’s her-

MULDER
-You’re saying that she’s not?

ALEX McCORD
We need to proceed with caution, Mulder.
You know that. Remember the story of what
happened to Dana years ago? How the group
she was with was infiltrated by a shape-shifting alien.

MULDER
Aliens are long gone. And besides, Super Buddies.

ALEX McCORD
Then why did we test Marita? Huh? We
have to be careful. We don’t know what
these hybrids are capable of.

Mulder opens his mouth to say something, but she stops him, already knowing what he wants to say.

ALEX McCORD
I know you want to believe without a doubt
that she’s really the Monica you know. I know
you want nothing more than to just have it be
her, but we can’t lose our heads in this. (beat)
I want to trust her too, but we have to make sure.
I’m sure it’s really her, but-

MULDER
Fine. But I’m telling you, you
can’t bring a Super Buddy down.
It’s her! I’m positive. I can
feel it, like the Force flowing through me.

ALEX McCORD
Ok. I’m going to run the test on her.

Mulder nods his head and Alex is relieved that there’s no issue with them testing her to make sure she is who she says she is.

Across the room, Monica could hear their conversation.

MONICA
Test me?

ALEX McCORD
Just to make certain you are who you are.

Monica nods her head, understanding. Alex comes up to her and draws her blood.

DOGGETT
What can you tell us about what they
were doing with you?

MONICA
Wasn’t just me. There were others who
were like me – psychics. (beat) They
killed them all.

ALEX McCORD
And they left you alive. Why?

MONICA
I-I don’t know. They were testing me.
Flashing bright lights in my eyes, keeping
me disoriented. I never knew why, they never
answered any of my questions.

MARITA
Maybe they just wanted to see how much
you could take. This bright light you
speak of... was there any noise with it?

MONICA
No. Just bright light.

Marita nods her head.

DOGGETT
Maybe they’re trying to develop
a new weapon to use against us.
Maybe they know we’ve rigged a
siren to alert us of the noise.

ALEX McCORD
Perhaps. (beat) She’s clean.

Mulder smiles. He knew a Super Buddy couldn’t be kept down!

MONICA
Where is everyone else? Our friends? Knowle?

Doggett shakes his head.

DOGGETT
They didn’t make it. We’re all that’s left.

Monica looks at him for a moment, shocked by this news.

MONICA
How can that be? No one else is alive?

Doggett kneels down in front of her, knowing how emotional she is when it comes to things like this.

MONICA
This isn’t right. Something has to
be done. We can’t just let them win.

MULDER
We actually may have a plan. It’s all
in theory though.

MONICA
What is it? Maybe I can help.

MARITA
Try to hitch a radio transmission
on the Brandenburg concerto airwave
and send it to the past via alien technology.

Monica looks at her like she’s crazy.

MONICA
Is that even possible?

MULDER
In theory.

MARITA
It could be possible if we use technology
that isn’t from our planet. It’s been said that
some alien abductees reported that they traveled
through time. So, who’s to say that a transmission
can’t do the same?

MONICA
This is all over my head.

MARITA
You’ve been inside their headquarters,
maybe you can help us get inside.

ALEX McCORD
I thought we exhausted this
conversation for the night.

MARITA
We did, but things have changed. I mean
she’s spent a few years there. Wouldn’t
she know how to get in and out. She did escape.

MONICA
You’re saying you want me to go back
there? After all that they did to me?

MARITA
You can help us end this, change things
for a better world.

MONICA
(scared to go back)
I don’t know...

MULDER
Oh gee, you know, you don’t have
to do anything you don’t want to.

He’s almost on the verge of crying again.

ALEX McCORD
We’ll discuss all of this later.
I volunteer for guard duty.

MULDER
HEY! What about me?

How does she tell him that she doesn’t really trust him out there. He was talking about doing the Moon Walk...

ALEX McCORD
You took the first shift. I’ll take this one.

MULDER
Oh. Okie-dokie.

Alex bulks up in layers and heads out the door for guard duty.

TIME CUT TO:

EXT. ALIEN HEADQUARTERS – NIGHT

24 HOURS LATER
MARCH 19, 2012

Our beloved gang travels secretly through the white snow, doing their best to remain unseen from any hybrid guards that may be watching the area. They are all dressed in white, wearing hats that we assume are lined with some kind of metal (aluminum, gold, silver, or platinum) so they can easily sneak into the building.

Mulder, with all his Mulder Luck in the world, leads the way with Monica, followed closely by Marita and Krycek. Their backup: John and Alex McCord.

With Monica leading the way inside, they enter the headquarters with ease. Alex McCord has a suspicious eye on her, still uncertain about this situation. The decision to come here last night was made with her reluctance, but she was out numbered and so here they are.

INT. ALIEN HEADQUARTERS – CON’T

Mulder is about to walk right into the openness of the hallway around the corner, but Monica stops him, sensing a guard near by. She shakes her head “no” and he stops. They all wait quietly as a guard passes by, not noticing them.

Mulder smiles, points to his aluminum lined hat and gives everyone a thumbs up. The hats are working!

Doggett rolls his eyes.

MONICA
The communications room is on the
next floor. We can get there unnoticed
through the back stairwell just over there.

With the coast clear, they make their way to the stairwell and close the door behind them. If it weren’t for a psychic traveling with them, this would be a very bad idea as they are locked in the building with no means to escape if necessary.

ALEX McCORD
I’ve got a bad feeling about this.

Mulder and Krycek exchange a look and bob their heads with giddiness.

MULDER/KRYCEK
Ok, Princess Leia.

They giggle at their “Star Wars” joke.

DOGGETT
Knock it off you two. Now is hardly
the time to get distracted in the
way that you two do. So cowboy up and focus.

MULDER/KRYCEK
Sorry.

Krycek giggles.

KRYCEK
We don’t have time for anything else.

Doggett glares at him.

KRYCEK
Sorry. I’ll stop.

They reach the top and cautiously exit the stairwell. No signs of any hybrids, so they make their way out and start to look for the communications room.

MULDER
Anyone else feel like we’re snooping
around the Death Star?

Doggett rolls his eyes again. Why are they so obsessed?

KRYCEK
I do a little. I just hope we don’t
have a Han Solo moment where he’s
running from the Stormtroopers and
turns a corner and there are a whole
lot more and then he’s the one being chased.

MULDER
That is a funny scene that three
Stormtroopers are running from one guy.

MARITA
Boys, I think that is enough.

KRYCEK
Stormtroopers are dumb.

MULDER
Remember when you wanted to film
a “Star Wars” spoof called “Droid Wars”.

KRYCEK
Ohmygod! Yes! I-C-U-P!

They giggle. Marita comes up to them, places a hand over both of their mouths to shut them up. She glares at them, and when she glares, it’s a mean mother fucking glare. They don’t even apologize, they just shut up.

As they round the corner, they are ironically face to face with a group of Hybrids, who seem to have been waiting there for them.

MULDER
(under his breath)
Oh my god... I’m Han Solo...

His eyes bug in fear. Stormtroopers he could take, but Hybrids? He doesn’t think so...

Instinctively, John fires his weapon, beginning a massive chaos of fighting.

Mulder tosses Monica a gun so she can defend herself against the hybrids. However, she aims the gun at Mulder, fires the weapon as a bullet speeds right through his head, killing him instantly.

The others look on, horrified to see that Monica isn’t the Monica they thought she was. Despite the blood test coming back as 100% human, here she is, betraying them. Krycek stands with his jaw dropped, looks at her, aims his gun and fires a few rounds right into Monica. There is no effect. She smiles at him.

Marita takes off running. If she doesn’t get to the communications room and transmit what she knows, there will be no saving the future. Even if she doesn’t make contact now, someday, somewhere, sometime, someone will eventually pick up her signal. Whether she saves the future or not, she’ll save someone.

As she runs, Krycek offers her heavy cover fire. The last thing he wants to see, if his life were to end tonight, is Marita dying. He’s been there, done that, and would rather not see it again. He fires uselessly at the Hybrids. Their bullets do nothing but offer false security.

Doggett is taken down, swiftly followed by Alex McCord. It is just Krycek left to defend Marita and her efforts to save the future. He’ll fight to the death for her. Unfortunately he is no match for the Hybrids, he poses no threat whatsoever. They kill him.

The hybrids look in the direction Marita was running, knowing that the last human survivor is down that hallway, somewhere. They’ll find her and they’ll kill her just as they did her friends.

CUT TO:

INT. TRANSMISSIONS ROOM – CON’T

Marita is typing frantically, not wanting to miss any detail she can offer. She can hear the sound of the Hybrids coming down the hallway. Surely they must know where she is. She doesn’t bother to look behind her as she wishes the receiver of her messages a safe journey, hoping that things will happen quickly, that her messages have changed this horrid future and that she’ll make it through this alive.

BAM!

Pounding starts to bang on the heavy door. They’re right outside now. She stands away from the transmitter, unsure of what to do. She isn’t armed with anything that could kill these things. Not that she could defend herself with the proper weapon, they are much stronger than her.

BAM! The door is broken down and the hybrids rush in!

And as they charge her, a flash of bright white light blinds her vision as we:

WHITE OUT:
